HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

eclou's LS1 track car
Well I finally found some time to clean the car and put up some proper photos. I can't go into all the details but Eric at TPC solved the following issues I had with my car:
1)unreliable powertrain when pushing 300 rwhp
2)unreliable braking/mismatched master cylinder and Big Red brake kit
3)fluids leaks - oil, water, fuel
4)suboptimal cooling channels for radiators
5)suboptimal mounts for suspension reservoirs
6)battery drain
I am very pleased and will be able to start tracking the car this week

Very nice, what make and size wheels are those? Does that brace you have circled go all the way accross to the other side?

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
that's the coolant hardpipe. I doubt it provides for much structural rigidity. The wheels are Kinesis C2 turbos. 17x8.5 and x10.

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
What part don't you get? It's the factory cross over coolant line, it runs from the top passenger side of the radiator to the coolant expansion tank. From the original factory turbo setup.
Re: eclou's LS1 track car
I never knew those existed. Thought it was a new product of yours. Pretty cool thing to have. I see theres one on ebay.....so it makes sense now. Ive always wondered why there were tapped holes on top of the frame rails...thought it was for 968 stuff.

Ah, i see. Okay, makes sense now! I didn't know those existed either. My '87 just had the rubber hose and i always wondered about the bolt holes too.
Anyways, the car looks great, and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy it more now.

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
some video from my shakedown run today at TWS. Temps were really hot - 106F outside, 260F oil temps, 240+ radiator temps. I will be upgrading from the 25 yr old stock radiator asap.

either the Ron Davis or the Wizard. I don't know which one is better or if they are about the same?

I've done a little research and they seem to be very similar with the wizard being cheaper. Chris white on rennlist sells the wizard radiator

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
Just as an update, did get the Wizard radiator from Chris and installed it. Quality item and in conjunction with a custom aluminum shroud to force air thru the radiator my water temps have dropped to 200 on track. One caveat the radiator is thicker and it pushes into the radiator hose into the power steering pump pulley. I had to saw off the nub on the pulley to gain clearance.
With the temps down I was able to run the car with more vigor at Texas World Speedway. The track was partially wet and had some occasional mists so traction was limited in the corners. The LS6 would spin the rear tires at will in 3rd gear on relatively fresh Hoosier A6 295/30/18 tires. I was also able to keep up with a chipped new GT2RS - yes, the real deal - on the front straight hitting close to 155mph. For points of reference, the GT2RS is rated at 620 hp stock, with chip probably closer to 700 hp. My car is lightened and the motor is probably around 400 rwhp.

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
I'll have to check but at least 1/2 inch thicker than stock. Before ordering though, you might want to wait as someone is coming up with an LS1 specific radiator for the 944, and it will probably be cheaper than options now

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
My issue is that my RH rad hangs too low and no matter how careful I am, it scrapes coming out of parking lots and driveways, hits the concrete block at the end of parking spots, etc, causing cracks and ruining the rad.
Is the new rad you mention something you or the builder can talk more about?

Re: eclou's LS1 track car
the Wizard doesn't hang any lower than stock. If you can wait a couple of months there will probably be an announcement about a new option here
