HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
I want to get mine in this off season, but am waiting (impatiently!) for one of you other guys to get the wiring done!
Anyone have it completed and have a wiring diagram ready?

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
Am planning a 944 ABS install in my car but very interested to learn more about the boxter install and how well it works on the 944's.
Haven't pulled the boxter wiring, but the 944's is basically a stand alone system with power being supplied to the harness and the rest is just wheel sensors plugging in.

That looks an awful lot like my 89 944 ABS system!

Lookin' good. You are happy with that spot? Not in place of the battery? Can you share the threading and part# of those brass adapters?

The adapters are 12mm to 10mm. Available at advanced auto, that easy.
Hopefully I will have that boxster harness in my hands today, all for the price of one six pack! I am then going to pull the wires I need and attempt to do it myself, I'll keep you posted.
ABS unit is in and all lines attached. I was able bend and reuse 4 of the 5 brakes lines, I only had to replace the rear "out" from the unit (bought a premade brake line at advances, 30" length).

Looking good! I assume you're planning to run a wheel well liner to protect it? I guess I should find mine for this project...

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
Has anyone built a plug n play harness? Couldn't you go from the harness currently plugging into the stock ABS pump and make a short harness to then plug into the Boxster ABS pump?

I don't have a liner, planning on making a small shied and that's it.

Went to my friends shop today to pick up the harness, unfortunately the harness he had was for a 3-row ABS unit, so back to the drawing board.

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
Oklahoma Foreign had the connector, it gets shipped today. I should be able to start the wiring this weekend. Here some info that I pulled from RL.
here's what they "should" be. This is a two row pin system (Bosch 5.3) diagram
1. RR sensor ground
2. RR sensor signal
3. RF sensor (Vechiles with 4wd)(in most of Bosch 5.3 systems not in use at all)
4. RF sensor ground
5. RF sensor signal
6. LF sensor ground
7. LF sensor signal
8. LR sensor ground
9. LR sensor signal
10. Instrument cluster processor (Only vechiles with EDL)
11. K wire ( to OBD connector pin 7 )
12. -
13. PCM engine torque & misfire monitoring (Only vechiles with TCS)
14. Stoplight switch
15. RF ABS wheel speed sensor (Vechiles with front wheel drive and ABS/EDL/TCS)
16. Ground ABS return flow pump
17. Positive battery voltage
18. Positive battery voltage
19. Ground ABS control module (To OBD connector pin 4 )
20. Traction control indication light
21. ABS light activition (Ground)

23. LR speed sensor
24. RR speed sensor

I'm reviving this thread again now as I'm looking into making a harness.
Pin 15 in the above diagram looks wrong. Pin 15 according to the 996 wiring goes to a fused 12v+.
OBD:
The only wire to the OBD is pin 11. Pin 19 goes to electronics ground.
Looking at wiring the OBD it seems pin 11 goes to a big junction with alarm, airbags etc and then forward with a single wire to pin 3 on the OBD diagnosis plug.
I'm not sure if I should wire in a OBD plug or not. Might be good and can simply future maintenance.
As nothing else will be connected to the diagnosis I figure I only need to wire ABS pin 11 to OBD pin 3 and then 12v+ to OBD pin 4 and ground to pin 5.
Can anyone confirm?
Also, the stoplight switch, is it a ground signal or 12v+?
The diagram on page 45 D-16 was correct for the 996 pump I used:
http://www.cannell.co.uk/Boxster_Man...%20To%2045.pdf
Pin 15 should be fused 12V. I connected Pin 14 (stop light) to the stop light switch of the 968 ABS harness.
Pin 11 is signal line to the ODB plug. I wired in a an ODB plug but have never actually checked that it works. I have not had a single ABS issue in the year I have been using the 996 ABS (21 races).
On the boxster plug diagram it says Pin 14 is "(vehicle voltage when brake actuated)" so I believe it is a switched 12V signal. The stop light is pin 25 on the 968 plug.
I wired ABS pin 11 to pin7 of the ODBII plug (k-line). ODBII pin 4 is ground and ODBII pin16 is unswitched 12V. But again I have never verified the diagnostics actually works.
Thanks. I found this female plug that have those pins pre-wired.

Here are a few items I learned from doing this:
You need to connect the the brake light switch wire to get it the function properly. This is signal which is sent to the unit when you press the brake pedal. Also, you'll need to run the engine to get a signal so you can locate the brake light wire with a volt meter.
Another thing I found is that it might not be a good idea on a 968 because the speedometer signal comes off the original ABS computer via the wheel speed sensors.
Hope this helps.
If you are looking for 5.3 pump with wiring connector shoot me a PM. I have one ready to go with a modded mounting bracket.ight in cluster is driven by two wires. On center connector pin #9 with yellow/black wire and left connector pin #14 with white wire.

Sweet! I just ordered the plug/harness from Oklahome Foreign. Does the new Boxster unit have it's own control unit? Or are you reusing the 944 ABS control unit?

Any particular year of the pump desired? Looks like a slick solution.

You need the pump with the two pin row plug, not the three pin row...

Not much luck searching for the pigtail, if I knew the connector type, I'd be happy to build my own, any info on this piece?

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
I used a pigtail from an '01 Mitsubishi Diamante which has the same Bosch 5.3 pump. Got if off eBay for 10 bucks. I did have to shuffle some of the pins around in the connector to match the pin-out for the Boxster.

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
Thanks guys, my unit arrives Saturday, I am assuming it has no pigtail, I will wait until I have it in my hands to make sure before I try and find one. I am glad I haven't let my 89 parts car (wrecked daily driver) go yet, as it has the rear trailing arms with the ABS sensors and trigger wheels.

Re: Anyone have their Boxster ABS pump in and wired?
I got my pump today, looks fantastic, no pigtail as expected. I found a pigtail from a VW Passat of the same era that had the Bosch pump. That should arrive early next week, looks like it has way more wires pinned that I need, so I will remove what I don't need. After almost 9 months of not working on the car, I am looking forward to getting back at it. My brakes are dry due to the hydro-boost install, so this is a perfect time to slip in the ABS. Thanks to all for the information on this!
