HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Vibration in Gear Shift Lever Empty Vibration in Gear Shift Lever

Post  acorad Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:57 pm

I get a quite noticeable vibration in my gear shift lever that increases and seems to peak at about 2800-2900 rpms.

It vibrates like that no matter what - at any speed including stopped still, in gear or out, clutch in or out, my gear shift buzzes like an angry hornet at about 2800-2900 rpms.

I'm assuming something's out of balance with the clutch, pressure plate and/or fly wheel.

Any other ideas?

Was it doing it the first time you drove it after the swap/start-up?

Did you ensure the TT shaft splines were fully engaged with the clutch disc and that the 15mm (dia.) shaft tip inserted into the pilot bearing fully?

Well...I will when I pull the clutch, which should be fairly soon...

Hope you didn't suffer the same demise as DVC and others. If you can please post the actual spline length and brand/part# clutch disc you are running.

Yeah, me too.

How about this, pretend we didn't just spend three pages on DVC's spline problem and that his problem's not on the table, what would be your next best diagnosis based on the symptoms I outlined before I pull the whole thing apart?

Sucks, but this sounds just like shaft tip non insertion, so the disc is oscillating all over the place. Don't drive it till you know 100%.....

If you have my adapter plate and 1.00" PB adapter (LS swap) you can set your TT shaft to TT relationship this exact dimension (5.17") and use a 15x35x14 Pilot bearing (diregard the blue-spacer).....Then lock the rear coupler down....

I haven't crawled under to take a look at mine, can you see enough with the inspection plate off to tell if you have enough engagement?

Ugh, thanks, it'll be a couple weeks probably before I'm able to get into it.

Shaft tip insertion has to be viewed with the clutch PP and disc removed. OR you can use the diagram and cheat off me....The mic doesn't lie.

EDIT: Actually I always wondered if the 2.63" dimensions were all the same on the 944 TT's. If this is true then the clutch disc and PP can stay put and the relationship measured from the base of the TO bearing/TT adapter seat to the start of the splining (1.925").....FYI

I have a spare TT in the garage I can measure the 2.63 dimension this weekend. I wonder if you can measue the end of shaft to the housing that attaches to the transaxle to determine if it fully seated at the flywheel. I'm replacing the transaxle before it hits the road, so that dim would be helpful.

You've probably already seen it, but there's a spline pictured next to a tape measure on DVC's "Wore out my driveshaft" thread that looks like it measuires a hair over 2-5/8".
