HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

custom torque tubes or ideas to mount a 930 transaxle
a year ago or so, I purchased a 930 long bell housing with dreams of using in a 944. I know those things will take a ton of abuse and the gear ratios would be ideal for a lightened car and v8.
Anyone have fab skills or know how to accomplish this. I know that the diff will need to be flipped and I am sure that it will be a nightmare trying to make a shift linkage too.
any ideas?

I dont have anything for that transmission but a boxster transmission has been done! From what I remember, most of the bellhousing bolts lined up with the 944 torque tube so no real need for an adapter.

Threre are a few co. that make real nice cable units for the G50/50, so they may have something already designed.

cool idea!
there are so many more high HP options for 911 based transmission!
In hindsight I should never sold my 924 turbo transaxle and torque tube! The "snailshell" trans is very similar to the 901 trans.
Pete, (CarreraGTS) is more on an expert on this topic though...

The snail shell is similar to the 915 not the 901. Many parts are 915 parts and the OEM LSD is from the late 930. (930.332.053.03)
The 930 transaxle has a very different bellhousing than the 944. It is basically round like the air cooled VW's. It's very bullet proof and has a 9" ring gear.
The Boxster is more like the 944 but from what I know (second hand) it isn't as strong as the 951.

If you could figure this out for the v8/high $ turbo/racing community, you would/should/could have a lot of buyers. I am about to pass on a super car because the gearing in the car is atrocious. So, you need to fix 170k mile trans with the same gears? Yuk. Some guys have 4-6k in theirs, rebuild2k, LSD2k, cryo/hardened 1k, no custom gear sets. Those are upto 2-4k.
It is the only reason why I believe that some stop racing them. Just not enough reasonable price options.
That guy in Vegas has spent as much as the car I was looking to buy.

The 901/915/930/G50 all use the same bellhousing pattern. Somewhere I have the dimensions but it will take a little time to find them. It is also the same as the air cooled VW The early transaxles (Porsche) used a 215mm clutch, then they went to 225mm and finely to 240mm.
