HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Who makes the best vacuum contolled heater valve?
The heater valve in my car has started leaking. What application is the best choice for a new valve?

I use the metal 928 one. Works great.

RE: hot water valve
How did you plumb that style valve? The valve I have has four connections so that when the valve is not in the heat position, the heater circuit bypasses back to the engine.

Re: Who makes the best vacuum contolled heater valve?
The LS engine doesnt have a separate cooling system bypass hose. gm vehicles have coolant flowing through the heater core all the time and use a blend door in the heater box to control heat. as a result, gm engineers decided to use the heater core as the bypass circuit in the cooling system.
if you use a simple on/off coolant valve it will cause an LS to run hot when you turn the heat off because there is no coolant flow through the motor. a 4 port valve always allows coolant to flow, it just bypasses the heater when its shut off.
i use an off the shelf valve for a chevy pickup, somewhere in the 90s. no idea the brand.

RE: Heater valve
Thank you for your replies. I dug a little deeper and found that a heater valve from a pickup in the late '90's with an LS engine will fit. I got one at NAPA.

Sounds like you found the heater valve you need.
I used the valve Kent provided in his TPC kit and it was one of the 2 brands I could identify from other vendors.
The link below is the installation process I followed...if you haven't installed the valve already, it might prove helpful to get all the hoses and vacuum lines back where they belong.

Thanks Raymond. The new valve from NAPA is in the car and not leaking.
