HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Late 944 330mm Front Brake Option
This is a budget-friendly option for the late model 944s to get a 330mm rotor in the front:
2005-2006 GTO caliper brackets are a bolt-on ordeal. The only thing you need to do is get 12mm ID- 14mm OD sleeves so you can use the 944's 12mm bolts in the GTO's 14mm bolt hole.
-McMaster-Carr Part# 6679k16
-Grainger Item# 786Y72/ Model# ZUSAB-PB-39
Use a rear rotor from a 2001-2016 911. A few part numbers:
- Brembo 09.C878.11
- Fremax BD3351 & BD3350
You will need to slightly shim the caliper bracket so that it is centered over the rotor. In my case, I had to use 1/32" (.8mm) shims.
The caliper and pads can come from either a 2005/2006 GTO or a base C6 Corvette.
For the flex line, GTO flex lines will work. StopTech 950.62004 is a stainless option.
This upgrade requires a minimum wheel diameter of 17".

My wife has an 04 GTO. That's exactly the same thing I had to when I put the 05-06 GTO calipers on her car. Her car stops extremely well, so the 944 will stop great with those.
Awesome find on the fitment.

Sleeves?

Can you provide some detail or link to what these sleeves are?
Once my conversion is rolling I will most likely be looking at some sort of big brake upgrade with my hydroboost now that I have 17's as I'm not sure the standard brakes on an 88S are going to be "awesome" as much as this would be or having a turbo's car brakes to begin with.

No need to press the sleeve in. It doesn't need to be an interference fit as it is just taking up the difference in bolt size. No need to retap, either. The sleeves don't have to be threaded. Just insert the sleeves and then feed the bolts through like you would for the factory caliper.

Awesome find on the fitment.
I've had a GTO since 2006, and when I was looking around for brake upgrades to the 944, I saw one casual mention of someone thinking that the GTO's bolt pattern was close, but nothing else was mentioned. Since I had spare calipers and brackets laying around, I decided to give it a try and started laughing at how they bolted right on. Finding a rotor was a bit tougher thanks to Porsche's stupid bolt pattern, but playing with my calipers and spending some time on Brembo's EU website allowed me to find something that would work. I didn't want to post up until I had the car driving, but with the GTO calipers in the front, the stock ones in the rear, and the Mustang brake master, the brakes feel pretty good to me.

Rears honestly don't do much braking, but turbo rear calipers are a direct bolt on. And who knows. GTO rear calipers might be.

good to know
then perhaps its some gto calipers with pads and a can of red paint with a 948 stencil in black to make all 4 corners look pretty as if there were a set.
planning to also get my boxster twist 17" wheels redone in black with 76mm black center caps with colored porsche insignia.
already have my eyes on all the finishing touches before i even get first fire done. lol

Unfortunately, the GTO calipers are not a bolt-on option. The bracket bolt pattern is much wider on the 944. The G8 rears might be an option, but I don't have a set to try.

Stock 944 turbo rear calipers would most likely work very good with the GTO fronts
