For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

SBC Engine Choice
Hello. New to the forum. I just purchased a very rough ‘87 944 S with an old RH kit installed, but no engine. Since the car is extremely rough (has dings and scratches everywhere), I am going for a budget build that will just be a beater and want to source a cheap SBC V-8 (can be a 5.3L engine) or anything that will run relatively reliably. What is the cheapest and easiest engine set up? I tried to post pics, but am getting an unknown tokenization error.

Good running 1998-2002 F-body 5.7. I bought a high mileage 5.3 LM7 but thats what I found locally. I'd look for a better 5.7 if I had to do it over...which I may. Car-part.com gives you access to the country if you are willing to pay shipping.

When ready you may want to contact Kent / TPC. Kent will ask you questions and formulate a plan and build sheet for you. Lists what you need and pretty accurate budget.

Re: SBC Engine Choice
The 5.7 liter camaro and corvette engines are almost impossible to find these days. And when you do find one, they are very expensive. The 5.3 liter SUV all aluminum engines are still easily sourced, and at a reasonable price. With a few minor mods a 5.3 will make plenty of power for a 944.
