HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

So really, only 4,6 and 3,5 actually cross over. Thats doable I bet!
LSx firing order is different than pre-1997 sbc, so it would be 1, 2, 4 and 5 crossing over, but same basic principle. They don't need to be tri-y, so it's fine for 02-equipped cars.

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
BAD NEWS.
As I mentioned above, Hooker sent 2 driver's side headers to me, rather than a matched pair. The place I bought them from called Holley (Hookers parent company) to see what could be done, and they are completely OUT OF STOCK. Apparently they only made 21 pairs, and they're all gone. The Holley rep had no ETA on any new sets being available. Why did this have to happen NOW?!?!
I hope someone out there has 2 passenger side headers, and we can find each other, so I can at least have a pair made up.
If you guys are planning on using the Hooker 2312's, and know of a place that has some in stock, I would suggest scooping them up now before they are gone. Who knows when new sets will be available

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Did you actually call them and find out if they had any in stock? My supplier called them directly, and said they haven't made any more. Perhaps some of the other suppliers have them on hand. I don't know whether Jegs or Summit actually keeps stock.

Order 'em dude...
I talked to Greg [coincidence?], 5 sets in stock now...3 sets coming on 8-13.Johnny Johnny wrote:Did you actually call them and find out if they had any in stock? Revision
Hey JJ, on the first pics you posted with header installed near the MC firewall hole before you did the second revision of that #1 tube where it dropped lower, I figure about 1" from the bottom of the Tilton Dual MC housing. Question is how far did your 2nd revision drop that #1 primary?

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Still waiting on Hooker's next production run of them - scheduled for this week I believe. Hopefully they will send me a set early. We've not been able to find a CNC bending shop that would be able to do the custom primary pipe, so it will need to be fabbed from individual pieces, which is a bit of a PITA.

These headers are the last piece of the puzzle. When the driver's side shows up, I'm taking it over to my welder along with another Moroso 20140 pan for him to Tig weld. He builds custom bike frames and headers for big V-twins. He said he will see what's crackin'.

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Hooker finally sent the replacements, so now I have a full set of 2312's, plus 2 extra driver's side headers. I've given up on the CNC bending option, and have ordered a couple of J-bends, which are pretty cheap actually. It's a bit more work to cut and fit individual pieces, but I think it's the only viable option. I've got some ideas on how I might simplify the design some more, so we'll see. Once the j-bends arrive I'll get one made up ASAP, and have a better idea of the final cost to modify the one side.
Will let everyone know how it goes.

They're a hit
These fit nicely. The only thing I'm going to do to them is move the #1 primary closer to the others to give even more room near the steering shaft U-joint. Other than trimming that block protrusion, they fit like a glove....Thanks J.J.

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Hold the phone...
I've been playing around with my new driver's side, and I think I've come up with a much better design (sorry xschop!) that would require much less modding and welding. Give me a couple of days to cut it apart and tack it back together, and I'll post findings and pics. If it works out, it won't require cutting at the collector, or grinding the inside surface of the flange. I think it will also be quicker to fab each one.
Stay tuned!

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
My grandpa said there was always more than 1 way to skin a cat.
From what I can see, if you took one off the shelf an cut #4 off at the middle of the flange (between 3 &4) and moved it all the way to the #1 and weld the flange back on, it could be a go. Just have to refigure the flange to block holes.
I am moving the long primary as close as possible to the others because of my full 1" xmember drop puts it a little close for mine, gotta give some leeway for engine flex....
I haven't said it in a while.....

LIKE A GLOVE!
I pushed the #1 Primary all the way up against #7 and there is a whopping 3/4" distance from the Large steering shaft U-joint. I couldn't be happier. I did have my welder tig the exhaust port compression rings and I will re-plane them up on the Bridgeport. Hopefully with what I think JJ's new mod will be, this will not have to be done, neither cutting the flanges at all....Thanks again J.J.
I had convo with my welder and as long as we can source the bends, he'll do the tig'ing.....
Shot them with 1200 Degree header paint, I used it on a few Bikes and it does not peel when they get red-hot.....
Definitely PORH moment of silence....

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Now that you have them together, cut the collector flange off and move it down and back so that you can actually get to the bolts. I know the last set of headers that I installed were hell to get the bolts on.
Just my 2 cents

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
Good idea. I may save some trouble by tacking in the stud bolts with a MIG. There looks to be plenty of room, maybe just the one near the rail needs to be addressed. Nothing extentions and swivel sockets can't handle

Jegs sent me some j-bends for v2 of the Hooker driver's side header. Will try to get it mocked up this weekend.

Re: Headers, headers, HEADERS!
when you have to modify you took account of dynamics
example 1300 GSXR 250CV
Case of multicylinder Roll 1 and 4 coupled, 2 and 3 coupled Calculation of L1 (first section until the first Y) (mode of maximum power) L= 292 X 650 = 189800 = 1,464 m starting from the valve. C' is too long!!! 12 X 10800 129600 To take harmonic 2 = 1,464/2 = 0,732 m or 732 mm (to remove to it half length of the conduit are 27,5 mm! ) To take harmonic 3 = 1,464/3 = 0,488 m or 488 mm (to remove the third length of the conduit are 15. Here are, c' is better. The length of the first Y L1 is given. Section leads cylinder head = 35 ² X 3,14:4 = 961,625 mm ² not to modify in addition to measurement the diameter under penalty of losing speed. (another debate) Calculation of L2 (section until the second Y. One will choose this time the mode of maximum couple which interresserait us, and one makes same calculation. Instead of taking 10800 rpm, one will choose, for example a mode of 8500 tr/m To respect the overall length, without harmonic for the maximum mode chosen, if possible!!! Not to forget d' to remove the length of the conduit. (45) fluid

I would worry if my 5.3l could hit 10.8k rpm.

Yes ,it's an example, but it is necessary to take account of calculations fluids, to have a coherent exhaust

cripes, yeah we can talk fluid pressure and resonance till we are all blue in the face, our goal is to just get the dang thing to fit in the engine bay.
