HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

T56 Swap into 944 Empty T56 Swap into 944

Post  Sentronix Sun Jul 20, 2014 9:17 pm

Hello everyone,

I am currently implanting a 5.3 Aluminum Vortec motor into my late 944 and I would like to try to gather information about swapping in the T56 out of a corvette. I have purchased the entire running gear from a Corvette from the engine back, including the torque tube and T56 transmission. I am GOING to put it into the car, I am just hoping someone has done this before with some pictures.

Any help at all is appreciated.

What I would like:

-Pictures of previous T56 swaps in 944's
-Any information/help at all with this swap

What I would not like:

-"Why not swap in X transmission? It's much easier."
-"It's impossible"

Thanks in advance

Look at this thread in the 924 swap forum. He's got a bunch of pictures, but he hasn't updated in a while.

T56 Swap into 944 Empty trans

Post  kevin924kevin Mon Jul 21, 2014 12:28 pm

Hello, i have been a little slow on updates. Work has been busy. Things are moving along. The swap is not that bad to do, everything fits nice. Are you going to run the porsche suspension, or do like admin has done and run the complete vette system. When i get a moment i will update my thread.

I will be using the Porsche suspension. Is that what you're doing? I really like your cross brace idea. I may go with something similar. Thanks!

Hello, yes i am running the complete porsche suspension. The cross member was made for by Hanksville hot rods. They do porsche cages and such. He provided my cage as well. Top quality stuff.

Thanks. I plan on doing the same. I have ordered rear coilovers to delete the torsion tube. I think I will be able to knock this project out quickly.

Looks good keep us posted. You will need to knock off the arms that protect the sensor on the right side of the trans, to allow enough room for the trans to sit between the modified torsion tube.

Kevin,

How much did you shorten the TT? Also what are you using for cv axles? Thanks!

Hello, you do not need to shorten the TT, fits like a glove. I purchaced new Emphi CVs for off road racing, bigger balls and all hardened chome moly, for the porsche side and will do custon axles to fit the vette side. The vette axles may be able to be reworked. Thats what i am starting with. Then i hope xschop will build me a set of fancy axles. My post has all the info.

Can I ask where you guys found all the parts "on a pallet" to speak of like a kit, or did you piece it together? I am also looking to do this swap this winter.

Thanks,

Andy

i found my complete trans package in NY from one guy, he packaged and had it shipped up to the border. ( in Canada) and i picked it up. You have to watch ebay and you can find complete packs but check many to make sure and the cost changes from person to person. I paid 1200.00 US for complete pack, with 18000 documented miles.
