HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

light weight LS torque tube
Christmas came early! My aluminum torque tube with built in C5 bellhousing "adapter" is complete. The engine end is actually a very snug fitting (zero clearance) "plug" that is replaceable, now that we have useable one piece and 2 piece C5 bell housings.
Weight saving is 11kgs (25lbs).
It's going in a 5.7l S2 light weight racecar, for GT road course racing.

Fingers crossed I didn't screw this up!! So far, it looks really good.

Re: light weight LS torque tube
interesting. is this something you will be producing and selling?
one thought that comes to mind, with the 2 piece bellhousings getting harder to find, and one piece bellhousings requiring a spacer between the block and bellhousing for flywheel/clutch clearance, why not make the built in adapter plate so it fits a traditional t56 pattern instead of the corvette torque tube pattern? this would allow the use of a ton of oem and aftermarket bellhousings, as well as give a solution for any engine that has a t56 bellhousing option out there.

Re: light weight LS torque tube
Hey Sharkey,
This is a one off....for now. I looked at a T56 bellhousing solution, and although not impossible, it is not easy. The advantage of the C5 bellhousing is that it incases the clutch and flywheel assembly completely, and the interface to the back end is simple. The T56 bellhousing is really only "half" of the housing with the aft end cast into the transmission. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My initial thought was that the T56 to TT adapter would have to be very thick, since the depth of the T56 BH looks much shorter than the C5 BH. This increases material costs significantly. However, I don't have a T56 BH, so this may not be correct. Can anyone measure the overall depth of the T56 housing.
Anyone have a T56 bellhousing for sale, cheap......for science??
Thanks,
Gord.
###### The google says a T56 BH is 4.9", and I just measured a C5 BH at 6". Thats only 1"ish" inch difference...not so bad.

Re: light weight LS torque tube
the quicktimes bellhousing for the ls/t56 (pn 8020, typical replacement for an f-body) is 5.55" deep. the c5 corvette quicktime bellhousing, pn 6035 is 5.686" tall.
if i remember tomorrow i can measure an f-body stock bellhousing, i have one that came out of a customers car and was replaced with a quicktime bellhousing.

QT Bellhousing option
As you're machining an adapter that bolts to a Vette Bell for a transaxle car, is there a known reason this won't work? It's 6.425" deep. Haven't built a car yet but unless there is a clearance problem due to it's depth, this really makes sense. AND it's on sale!!!
