HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Torque Tube Stuck Empty Torque Tube Stuck

Hello all I have a 87 auto 944 which I am prepping for my V8 conversion. So far the trans is out, the 9 bolts on the ring gear is out and the 4 bolts mating the torque tube to the engine bell housing also out. I still cannot get the shaft free. What am I missing?

Did you rotate the TT 180o so that it can get past the torsion bar carrier?

I'm in the process of lowering the carrier for sufficient room. I hope this will be the fix to my delay. Will post results.

You don't need to lower the carrier to move the TT back, just rotate the TT 180o. You should then be able to pull the engine, work on the clutch, or whatever else needs to be done.

So I spin the TT 180 as directed, but the shaft is still tightly secured in the flywheel. So the case is actually sliding of the shaft since the shaft is not breaking free. Just to remind you, I am not using the Porsche trans nor TT for my build, it's all getting tost.

So i finally figured it out. Below is the photos which shows what need
to be done at the engine BH area when removing the TT on an "auto" 944.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The is a dust cover on the driver's side on the BH. Remove it then you will see in that round opening a clevis tightly secured around the shaft. I used an 8mm Hex bit socket to undo it.

After loosening that clevis i still had to remove the BH. The above photo shows a round ring/spacer of some sort that has a snap clip in front of it. Remove clip with a pair of pliers and out came the shaft.

My bad, I did not catch the fact that you were running an auto.
