HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Wheel choices
Going to pick up new wheels today and I wanted some opinions before so.
The wheels for sales are a set of 18"x10 square 993 hollow spoke twists for $525 or a set of 17"x9 rear/17x8front twists.
My question is, has anyone encountered any problems running 10" in the front. I dont had lindsey racing springs so I'm pretty sure it will clear.
Any opinions/concerns before 6pm eastern would be great.
Thanks

Re: Wheel choices
I haven't tried 10" wheels. My street setup is CupII 17x8 ET52 front and 17x9 ET55 rear. With 225 front and 255 rear street tires there's lots of room inside and out even if the fender lips are not rolled.

Front tires
Rich, Have you changed your front end alignment with the 8" wheels? I have the same setup as you and my steering is twitchy, precise but has to be watched carefully on all but smooth roads.
I had this before the engine swap because I installed the cup1 wheels and tires first. I have checked the alignment and it is correct to the Porsche specs.
Had the same effect with the original Porsche PS pump, still the same feel with the Turn One pump.
Bump steer has been corrected for the 3/4" X-member drop.

No, can't say that I have. It's zero toe in the front, -.02 total toe in the rear. But to be honest, I've driven the car on the street very little. It chases ruts big-time but I wouldn't call it twitchy. My track wheels are wider still, 8.5" with even less offset, and it's a manual rack. The thing is very eager to turn-in on the track with moderate understeer at the limit. I have the rear bar set to soft, will change that to reduce the understeer as I get comfy with the new engine power.

Ah, well then I'm experiencing the same thing. I've noticed this on several cars when pushing the front contact patches farther apart with spacers or wheels of more negative offset. It sucks on the street but sure makes a car more eager to turn-in at the track. The m030 brakes made it even more noticable due to the 3mm wider hubs.

I run 17x9 ET55 Cup 2 wheels with 275's all the way round for the track. Don't have any issues with the car hunting ruts...

Re: Wheel choices
Wow Doc. Did you have to do anything special to get that rubber in the front? I'll have to test fit a 9" cup2 w/ 255 up front. Seems like running square is the way to go.

Re: Wheel choices
Nope, fits perfectly. I'm running factory Turbo S front struts with 250lb springs and Racers Edge camber plates, -3 degrees.
Running square is awesome, saves me a TON in tire wear and costs...

Re: Wheel choices
Awesome news! I ended up buying the 10" square set since he wasn't ready to let go of his 17 track wheels.docwyte wrote:I run 17x9 ET55 Cup 2 wheels with 275's all the way round for the track. Don't have any issues with the car hunting ruts...
He has 245 on front and 275 rears which I will be replacing for all 275's as soon as they need to be changed.
I'll report back on how they fit as soon as I get my car back.

Re: Wheel choices
What's the offset on those wheels? Looks like the 993 widebody rear 18x10 is ET65. If that's what you got, 10mm spacers are needed to match Doc's ET55 offset.

Re: Wheel choices
yea they are ET65. And I have an early 944 with stock stackable spacers... I got 6 spacers total that came with the wheels lol. I hope it fits ok.
I'm planning on get a set of custom wheels in the near future anyway, I just needed wheels to replace my cookie cutters which dont clear my new brakes.
I should have everything mounted and working in 2-3 weeks so I'm very excited to get my car going after 2.5 years doing this swap.

Re: Wheel choices
Widebody offsets are an ET40, narrow body is ET65. I'm running 18x10 ET65 street wheels in the back and get a slight rub here and there, however I definitely couldn't fit them with a spacer, that would push them out past the outer fender lip.
