HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

cam choices

Post  hutchjc1 on Mon Sep 12, 2016 10:22 am

I originally built my LS with a GM hot cam, ends up it was not the best choice as it wants a higher rear gear. At anything under 2k with lite load it wants to buck and carry on, tuner feels it had too much overlap etc. for the trans gear set. The trans is the original from the car, 1986 turbo, and I believe it is a 3.37 gear ratio but if anyone knows different please let me know. What have you guys found that works well for your cars ? The engine is a 99 LS1 with basically cleaned up heads ( pro header off of EBay), TPC's shorty headers, BBK SSI intake and T/Body. I am looking for drivability more than a peak number so if you care to share your cam info I would like to see what works.
Thanks,
Jim

I was using a cam spec'ed by EPS. 226/230 with a 113LSA if i remember right. I have the cam card saved somewhere; ill try and post it in the next few days. If it matters, this cam will not pass smog.

Worked very well with my car, excellent drivability on the street.

If you look through my build thread you can find the dyno graphs, it was 380whp / 360ft-lbs on 93oct. LS1 with rebuild 241 heads (nothing special), long tubes, 4" single exhaust, LS6 intake, ported throttle body and a few other odds and ends that dont matter for power numbers.

These are 2 different cams I have used in my builds. The top cam is in my wife's 04 GTO. The bottom cam is in a 944 I just finished for a client. My tuner was able to get 400whp out of both cars. Both cars are very drivable, with good cruise quality. The 944 has a 968 trans in it. Both engines are stock LS1, with the cams and long tube headers.

This my cam card

I have a 2000 LS1. This cam runs good on the street and is close to the other two above. With no official tune I pulled 337hp and about 340 torque. I would like to see the tune file for the 400 hp to see the difference. I have hp tuners but its complex and I'm still learning. I will say at low speeds and high gear it will buck but I believe its a way of saying shift down to appropriate gear.

gdopnt, i had a lot of bucking at low rpm with my car at part / light throttle. This was with a mail order base tune, i just provided my cam card, injectors and desired fuel pressure. Once i had the final tuning done it was like driving a factory tuned car around, no hint of any bucking and a completely smooth powerband. The guy that tuned the car said it was extremely rich. I picked up over 25bhp after the tuning was finished. I bet you will net similar results and it will all smooth out once you get the final tuning done.

Just thinking about the powerband on my car and i am sort of missing it now.. Razz

Who edited my post? You can't say some guy that's not on this site on this site? WTF?!

I used a very similar EPS 226/230 cam, .601/.601 lift. Made 400 rwhp on my LS1 with Kooks long tubes, FAST 92/92, stock 241 heads, dual 2.5" exhaust with X pipe.

Gdopnt, My tuner has the file. I will ask him if that's something he can give me. He's very touchy about sharing though.

I just sent you a PM

That automatically happens when you type his name. Our site doesn't want to be affiliated with him. He was banned some years ago for, well..... lots of reasons.  Laughing
