HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

X-member Mod Pictorial
When I did my swap I didn't get good pics of the X-member mod. I Did the first step to modding an X-member for the Moroso 20140 oil pan on the passenger's side steering rack mount. It important that you trim the mount boss at an angle upwards to give it support strength
...... Next step line-boring for 1" X-member drop at the control arms....

Heat shielding wires
Well #3 plug wire started fouling. I peeled back the aluminum foil wrap and the silicon sheath has heat cycled and has cracks. I have a temporary 8mm blue wire made up and want to find the best heat resistant plug wires/wrap for the truck coils. What's the best set-up?
BTW, the truck coils will arc on the valve covers from an inch away....when the plug wire is removed....amazing.

C5 water pump spacers
XSCHOP are you still making the C5 water pump spacers, Alternator and PS pump bracket that you created for your 5.3 truck install. Also which LS1 intake did you use
(i.e Corvette/ Trans-am / Camaro) or are they all the same.
I am having a 5.3 944 build done and am in the final stages of parts ordering and your set up seems to be the best way to avoid switching to all LS1 accessories.

I can make the setup. You need to order that March Performance pulley and send it to me. I'll build the rest and ship it for $200. PM me or email [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Awesome, do you have a part number on that March pulley. I see they have quite a few on their site.

Are you running the truck crank pulley?
Make sure you read everything here.... The adapter bracket can us the Truck or F-body Crank pulley. I'm still running the truck pulley and can remove my fans from the front of the radiator even, no need to stick on f-body crank pulley at all, keep it all truck.

Currently yes. I was not aware of a need to swap it.

March Performance pulley #6271..... I'll do the rest.... Are you also going power steering?
Also I removed my idler bracket, it was unnecesary because the Billet March pully is such a large dia, with plenty of belt grab.....quiet too.
You should be able to PM now with 5 posts....

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
PM sent....
IF you go 18's you'll also want PS IMO.....
Running the NA radiator? NA radiator has zero problems, Getting warmer outside so I removed the 180 T-stat & just reinstalled a new 160 degree T-stat for the summer....cool as can be with the 5.3
EDIT.... also member Tehone found that the new 2010 Camaro Water Pump does NOT need the WP spacers when using the Truck crank pulley

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
Looks like we'll have another 948 owner this summer. After a test ride in mine, the shop owner got on the phone and bought a Silver 944 from some lady that threw a belt and towed it to his shop. Of all his P-cars I was more impressed that he's doing a ground up rebuild of this.....Wonder if I could talk him into a GM V8 swap lol...

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
Not yet, I have the LS6 cam and the guys on performance trucks say it gives another 40HP, but they are up in the air on gas mileage and low end torque. I am happy with my gas mileage and power for now. Working on a Turbo LSD t-axle soon, then I'll want more HP. I smacked a Pontiac G8 around a couple days

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
I have new rebuilt Z06 heads with springs for my next upgrade after the cam swap. Looks like I'm going to have to get a proper clutch disc designed now before I'm sticking in any more juice.

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
Doesn't anyone make a double disc clutch for the LS? In theory the second disc should double the holding power---same clamping force but double the surface area.

The maximum torque load that can be held by a disc is a function of the overall disk size (the disc contact start/stop radius more specifically, as we can normalize it to about the center of that point) and the clamping load. Surface area has nothing to do with the holding power, only heat shed ability. Coefficient of friction is dimensionless.

CP-4018
O.D.= 11"
I.D. = 6.5"
2.25" across the friction material

Re: Xschop's 5.3 LM7 build
The Spec clutches hold a ridiculous amount of torque, much more than any LS motor can make unless you turbo charge one.
My stage 2 disch supposedly is goo for 550 ft lbs or something like that. The stage 2 hybrid, which they wanted to sell me, was good for over 700 ft lbs. They didn't quite seem to understand that I didn't need something like that...

Hey Doc, I chose the specific Dodge disc because of IT"S SPLINE ENGAGEMENT LENGTH was the longest out of the 4 different ones I looked at. ANY system is only as strong as it's weakest link....

I'm more of a fan of buying something that's designed to fit, rather than getting something for another application then trying to make it fit.

Actually, I would have another shop do the inner spline hobbing for a one-off and make it the Porsche pattern at 1.5" length. Eventually someone's going to actually measure the Spec clutch spline length and post it.

Is it possible/practical to get a new drive shaft made with the Corvette spline?

I have the stage 2 kevlar spec clutch, according to their tech they will all have the same spline length. I will get mine measured tonight and post what I get.
