HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Which radiator do you use?
I don't know how others feel about the issue, I purchased my radiator from Renegade and it works good to keep the engine at temp. It comes with a fan and relay for it too. Its all allimnum welded. Pretty and light.
Also it fits within the radiator thickness. The only modification needed is to drop the support bar, with their instructions it says all you have to do is use longer bolts. I wouldn't know that for sure though, My radiator support had been modified by previous owners.

Re: Which radiator do you use?
I used a Griffen, modified upper sheet metal. didn't drop lower mount. I didn't like the idea of taking out a radiator going over a speed bump. It's this one... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Rad cap is now sealed with aluminum disc epoxy'd in and rad cap installed over top.

I added the 1/8" X1" angle iron to the front because I felt the hood release could be a little stiffer after cutting away sheetmetal for clearance.

Re: Which radiator do you use?
I use a stock radiator from Summit. We use the 944 fans.

We also modified the front cross member, moved the radiator up front 4" to get more room.

So far working great.

Re: Which radiator do you use?
I'm using the same summit racing one although it looks like it went up $20 in price since I bought mine.
I had my favorite local machine shop (they are apparently famous for their work on jeeps, some kind of rock crawling nonsense) cut off the cap area and alum weld a plate over it.
Planning to do the same forward movement that Vorsche did, although I'll be darned if I can figure out where his fancy pants bolts came from.

Question for Vorsche or Admin:
On Vorsche's car (pic above) are you using a fabbed crossmember between the bumper mounts or running without?

Re: Which radiator do you use?
The bolts I'm referring to are the ones on top that are threaded only in the middle. I think I understand how they work but I'm not 100%. Looks like either they threaded into a bolt welded to the angle iron or the nut is underneath and held with a wrench while you tighten the bolt, thus applying pressure on the metal plate at the bottom of the threads.

Re: Which radiator do you use?
I took a stock type bolt and removed about 1/2" of threads from the end of it. There is a nut welded to the top plate that the bolt threads through, then there is a lock/jam nut under the top plate. The end of the bolt goes through a small metal plate with a hole in the center which sits on top of a rubber pad with the same size hole in it, That keeps everything in line. With just a little tension from the bolt everything stay put. Basically the same idea as the factory setup, just a modified version.
Re: Which radiator do you use?
I use a stock 951 radiator. So far, so good! I blew up my original one, so i got a new one on ebay for $100 and paid a radiator shop $40 to clean it.

Re: Which radiator do you use?
Is there a preference between these 2 that are referenced on this page?
The summit radiator (23.875 in. Wide, 16.0 in. High, 1.75 in. Thick) is -1/8" on width and -1.25" on depth compared to the griffin one (24 in. Wide, 16 in. High, 3.0 in. Thick), so it takes up less space- would it provide better cooling than a 951 radiator?
