HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Alternator wiring?
So turns out I only have 1 wire on my alternator hooked up, which might be why my ABS isn't working.
What's the second wire coming off the alternator that I need to hook up and where do I connect it to? I've read about a "two wire connector" on the firewall, but which one and where exactly is it?
TIA!

LOL. Yeah, I know. I just bought that Painless pigtail you used Rich. I really just want to know where on the firewall that 2 pin plug is that I need to tap into for the body harness. Anyone have a pic of that?

Heh...
Here's where that connector is. The 2-pin white-ish deal right by the master cylinder (or where it would be...)

Can't really make it out in the pics. With the hydroboost in my car visibility in that area is tough. Does it pop out somewhere under the dash that I can find it?

No idea. That's an area of my car I can't see.

Gotcha. Can you take a pic with you pointing to the harness with a screwdriver or something?

Re: Alternator wiring?
If i remember right, the white 2-pin molex connector with the red / black and blue wire is what your looking for.
The red / black stripe wire is the trigger for the starter solenoid from the ignition switch. The blue wire is the exciter wire that leads to the alternator light on the gauge cluster.

Re: Alternator wiring?
Exactly Jon. The connector is circled in blue. The blue and bigger red/black wires go into the factory rubber wrapped bundle pointed down to by the blue arrow. That bundle passes through the firewall beside the clutch master pointed up to by the other blue arrow.

Keep it simple
Keep it simple, have your alternator shop fit a self exciting regulator module in the alternator.
It's a simple one wire main feed to the battery!
I originally used the computer hookup and fried two regulators.

Re: Alternator wiring?
I'm not really looking for that per se, I need to get the alternator wiring into the Porsche plug so I can get my ABS to work.
Without tapping into the Porsche body alternator wire, it doesn't know if the engine is running and the ABS relay isn't going to actuate and send power to the ABS pump/ECU

So do I. That has nothing to do with wanting operational ABS...

Correction
My 948 has the xschop brake upgrade, Lexus front and Mazda rear calipers etc.
Guess I never had to consider ABS hook up.

Re: Alternator wiring?
Ok, still battling this. Quick question, I have the 4 wire Chevy alternator. Do I hook up the signal wire from the alternator to BOTH the ABS signal wire (red/black stripe) *and* the D+ Charge light wire (blue)? So splice the two Porsche body harness wires together and hook them up to the signal wire from the Chevy alternator?
That way I'd only be using two out of the 4 wires coming from the alternator, is that correct?
Or, do I hook the alternator signal wire up to the red/black stripe, then give either switched 12V or unswitched 12V to the D+ charge light?
Also, does the blue wire give the "excite" signal to the alternator so it'll charge? Or do I need to hit Red Pin #15 from the PCM with an inline resistor to lower the voltage to 5v? If that's the case, does that wire go into a different spot on the alternator than the blue D+ cluster wire?
