HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Engine oil warning light Empty Engine oil warning light

Post  gcrind Fri Dec 14, 2012 10:34 am

I'm wiring an 87 944 LT1 conversion. Can't figure out how to get the engine oil light to shut off. I've tried grounding the yellow/white wire at pin 8 of the flat 8 pin connector by the DME (dme is removed)and nothing happens. Hoping I don't have to remove the instrument cluster to access the wire there.

Also, where do you connect the SES (check engine) wire from the GM PCM?

What year is the car? What year is the engine?

The pin 8 you are referring at the DME is to the speed transmitter so that wont help much.

The SES (MIL) lamp would normally be placed in the cluster (late cars) in place of the "!" light. For early cars, youll have to add a simply light to that cluster.

I ran the yellow/white wire at the instrument cluster connector to the green/white DME connector then a ground to the engine block. The light turned out, it would not when trying to ground the cluster wire alone.

Ok, so I have to tie into the wire at the cluster? I was hoping to be able to access it somewhere else, so I don't have to pull the steering wheel and cluster or try squeezing under the dash. But I guess I'll try that. Will the LT1 engine oil level sensor work if it is wired to that light?

You will have to take the cluster out to access the wire. At least I did, I suppose you could access it in the harness going to the cluster.

Got it! Was able to reach the yellow/white wire from under the dash at the cluster connector and spliced into it with a ground.

Got all gauges working and no warning lights on. It's a beautiful sight!!

Thanks

I am trying to finish the LS1 install in a 944 NA. I don't have a green /white wire at the DME connector. I have grounded the yellow/white at the cluster and can't get the low oil light to turn off. Does anybody have a wire diagram for an 87? I would like to keep the central warning light but I am about to just take the bulbs out.

Engine oil warning light Empty Pressure gauge

Post  gdopnt Wed Jan 15, 2014 7:31 pm

Hello
When you spliced into the yellow/white with ground.  The out come of doing that was to clear the light or will the light work in the low oil pressure state?  My oil pressure and fuel gauges are both pegged  and I'm understanding when that happens its an indication you have power to the gauge but the ground has been lost. Those gauges according to the schematic share a ground between them.

Engine oil warning light Empty Yellow / White wire

Post  crashed9xs Thu Jan 16, 2014 7:37 am

On my 87 944 na I cut the wire and grounded the guage side and it had no effect. The oil pressure guage and fuel gauge act normal. If you have the left side connector partially connected the gauges will go a little nuts.
