HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

CTS-V Drive Accessories

Post  968gene on Sun Aug 18, 2013 9:57 am

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I test fitted the CTS-V accessory drive kit (including A/C) and everything fits. The PS reservoir mat be tight on some applications and may need relocation.

Nice! Sweet setup, that PS reservoir clears the hood?

It does. It's tight. It may not work on all applications, but a remote would be an easy fix. I'm thinking a much larger fan will be able to clear everything with this drive setup.

My understanding is that the GM LS compressors are variable vane and won't work well, is that the case? I use the v alternator without the ps now and works great but I am on my third A/c compressor for the vintage air kit installed with fabricated brackets in the same CTS location. Thanks

I'm using GM sensors and the A/C select input on the GM PCM triggered from the Porsche climate control unit, as well as GM fans controls, so I don't have to worry about the A/C compressor crapping out. Others have modified the compressor to get rid of the variable vane system.

Fixed Displacement Units

Could it be the installer didn't follow the proper oiling recommendations? I'm reading that the oiling needs to be near perfect to insure a long compressor life. The other option might be to go to an HT-6 style Compressor which is a fixed displacement unit. The HT-6 has had a great deal of leaking issues but there are better designed units out there now (Sanden 4440) . They may bolt up to the LS bracket.

The LS compressors are not able to take the revs. The LS computers shut the compressor down when at WOT... That is why you go through so many compressors. If you are going to drive hard, shut off the air.
I have seen guys rig something that shuts down the compressor at wot but I don't remember where.

All the cars I've dealt with that have EFI shut off the A/C at WOT. It's not because the compressors can't take it, it's because the manufacturer figures if you're at WOT, you want all the power you can get.

I can tell you again that when I owned my 2004 CTS-V I was told it cuts out at WOT by my dealership to prolong the life of the compressor. I went through a compressor already on my LS2 944 and it was because it has no cutoff and I forgot about it. It's also touched on in about 100 threads on ls1 tech. Also if you have a ctsv, camaro, ect. And your cut off switch stops working, you WILL FRY YOUR COMPRESSOR.

That's pretty sad. I didn't know about that because I don't frequent LSx sites and I just figured GM would be like other manufacturers in this regard.
