HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

1990 S2 Cabriolet
Sorta testing the waters for this, and to see if I get any bites. Clear title 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet. 1995 LT1 with 1996 LT4 heads and intake. Motor has ~50,000 miles head's and intake have about 5k. Heads and intake were shipped to Lloyd Elliot for the Stage 3 Setup and to relieve the intake of all the rough edges and material. Headers are Pacesetter smog legal headers to 2.5" dual exhaust. Ground-Control Coil Overs all around with new Koni adjustables front and rear (500lb front 150lb rear) torsion bar is still in the car. Top has been converted to manual to keep the bows from breaking. BMW hydroboost brake booster, manual steering, Turbo 9u LSD transaxle w/ n/a 5th, battery relocated to rear (0 gauge wire to the front), Turbo front sway bar, S2 rear swaybar, Oil Cooler, Early front seats, Stock thermostat (sits 190* while driving over 35mph and goes to 205 before the fan kicks on), 2 speed 4000cfm 3.8l Ford Fan 2 w/75amp relays, Ron Davis Racing Radiator, Kevlar Clutch, Cruise Works, Lightened flyweel, new clutch slave, early 944 seats, firewall reinforced where the clutch fails, 19" wheels 275 30 19 rear 235 35 19 front. Heater works, but there's no A/C.
Needs: New top ($400 canvas and about $500 for install), Paint is original so it needs a little help, ideally 250lb springs in the back, AIRBAG light on (I've replace clockspring and drivers airbag, I have new ABS computer and passangers airbag) but I really don't care to have 1st gen airbags hit me anywhere so I pulled the bulb out.
I want to sell this to an out of state buyer since the reality is I'm tired of how the rules and reg's are written in this God forsaken state in regards to smog. Can this pass smog? Yes. Have I tried going to the referee? Nope. Truth is I'm tired of dealing with the burocracy and how dependant you are on the whim of some butt head tech that truthfully knows less about cars than you do. Last time I had to smog my 83 it took 3 tries, I don't have the patience to do it again.
$11,000

Hey Tim, Do you mean the HC and NOx #'s were bad 3 times? or they had 3 different rulebooks to play by for the hardware?(which I don't doubt in Looneyville)
One word for the high HC #'s.....ACETONE.... 6 0z/10 gal when running the sniffer check.... 3 oz/ 10gal petro daily
The Nox #'s go high when combustion temps are too high (lean) and are easily fixed by timing/advance

No everything was a technicality. It sniffed clean all 3 times. (Charcoal canister, fuel cap, MSD Distributer) The Porsche cansiter cannot be used (so I now have the Camaro canister installed), locking fuel caps don't seal right so they don't lick to approve cars with them on, MSD distributer has no CARB EO number so one tech failed me, the other passed passed me on my last trip. My H/C's are under 50, nox is now way under 500 I can't remember the rest. I had one tech tell me it had to be the Chevy transmission, I told him I'd wait for the other tech.

I think Stuart F Wright hit the nail on the head when he said that Cali would try to CAT some Volcano when it blows....Loosers destroy an entire farming economy trying to save a few #s of one type of minnow species

Well anyways, I may just go ahead and try to smog it, but it's a day off every damn time. If I can sell it, I will, if not I'll get the process started and just take stress pills.

Who needs stress pills, doesn't Cali offer a "garden" variety of stress reducers? Talk about going GREEN

If I sell it, I'll probably use the money to put a down payment on a house.

Re: 1990 S2 Cabriolet
Let me know if you guys know anyone that's interested in buying my car. The ref failed the car, not because it isn't clean, but because the cats are not withing 6" of the headers (not caring that they don't fit there) and that I'm using stock intake boot and MAF but connecting to the air filter that is a K&N with a 3.5" silicon tube (not caring that there is no aftermarket for this motor that will fit the car and have a CARB exemption). I will entertain offers, reasonable offers. Proof of how clean it is....

DAWGZ,
Where in California are you? What referee did you use? With that sticker on your car, it should be a straight forward smog test right?

Modesto, Ca. With that sticker you just take it to any smog shop and they test it as a 1995 Chevrolet Corvette. I used the referee in Alameda, Ca.

Re: 1990 S2 Cabriolet
That is great news for you.
Not to hijack your thread but....
Any words of wisdom for any of us other CA conversion? I'll be doing mine as a LS1 2002 Trans Am. I am shooting for September.

Your conversion is a lot harder than mine to smog, because OBD2 includes testing of the EVAP system. Law dictates that the cats be within 3" of stock, also that the intake be stock. In my case because I used the stock intake and gM did not put any other emissions based tubes on the airbox they made exemption. I had to call Patrick at the referee and he had to call the B.A.R. because the CARB EO approved cats would not fit. It's illegal to use old cats or cats that do not have CARB-EO's on them. Test your EVAP system, my fuel filler neck was leaking and caused a fail.
