HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: 1986 944 TURBO 5.3 L33 CONVERSION
im thinking drop the crossmember 1.0 inch, raise the motor mounts .5 inch, mod the original 944 aluminum arms ball joint end with the early style 944 bolt on ball joints. beef up the aluminum arms about 8" back or so top and bottom with 7075 and put the balljoints 1" taller on the top side of the arms to offset the 1" crossmember drop. redrill the crossmember where the arms attach .75 inch up. of coarse drop the rear of the arm mounts .250" to match the crossmember/arm relocation. truck oil pan should fit, and my headers will almost fit with no mods. use poly on all bushing mounts. with the billet trans mount moving the trans/tt/motor back .5 " it should be a nice mod and not cost much dough and get the effect we are looking for for clearance issues.

Re: 1986 944 TURBO 5.3 L33 CONVERSION
Sounds like you are on the same track as what Xschop did with his modded RX-7 control arms. Check his thread by the same.
Thought about modding my truck oil pan but it sure is/was easy enough to get the TPC oil pan and be done with it. I'm slowly mocking the cross member to engine using TPC uprights to see where I'm at with a power rack for clearance. The power rack is said to be a lot taller than the manual rack so I have issues for clearance as it is let alone thinking you are trying to fit the truck pan in the sanwhich.
I might even take a swipe at this when I get a chance just for curiousty. Have fun.

Re: 1986 944 TURBO 5.3 L33 CONVERSION
new 3hp mini starter showed up today. cleaned up the mustang v8 master/booster assembly. it came with the mustang firewall mount that is offset. ill have to measure it and see if its 12.5 degrees or close. cleaned the rear underbody of the car. prepping it for rustoleum black chassis paint. will clean and paint the entire bottom of the car with it. then detail the chassis and suspension as things go on it. i like clean cars. (dont chime in here cory, lol) going to prep the engine compartment in the next few days cleaning and removing unwanted pieces. will paint the engine bay rustoleum chassis black as well. this is my daughters car ultimately and she wants it the same color as my 964 rs america tribute car, porsche cobalt blue. but the paint will come later.

rating of the al7710 is 710MPa, or B95 rockwell hardness, 103,000psi. similar to light Ti and hard Cr.

Re: 1986 944 TURBO 5.3 L33 CONVERSION
After a conversation with Rob/xschop we both had decided to leave the stock gm rod bolts in the rods. after careful research and consideration i am now going ahead with the arp rod bolts and just resize the big ends of the rods. A 10.9 metric property class has a tensile yield strength of 940 MPa or about 136K psi. This is approximately the equivalent of a Grade 5 fastener. ARP 8740 steel comes in at a low of 180Kpsi and is typically 200K psi or slightly higher.

Rear trailing arms, shocks, brakes off the car now. just a bare shell with an interior now. havent been feeling that well last couple of days but will be taking all the suspension front and back to the carwash in the next few days.
