HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I'm pretty sure my electric booster has died (it just whirs continuously without building pressure) and I'm debating switching to manual brakes to simplify everything. I have several questions before doing this that I haven't really seen answered here.

  • Has anyone run manual brakes with the stock 951 calipers? If so, which MC? The Wilwood 260-7563? How is it on the street?
  • Does TPC still make the mounting plate and pushrod? I don't see it listed on their web site. (Do I even need the pushrod or will my existing one work?)
  • I'm also considering switching to hydroboost. Does anyone have a complete parts list for that, either Ford or BMW?

This is for a strictly street car at the moment.

Im running a stock master cylinder at the moment with the stock proprtioning valve. No problems yet. I plan on upgradibg to a 928 valve for better rear braking maybe installing the hydroboost, not sure abou that yet still feeling out the manual setup

Not sure what modifications that you are looking to do on the braking, it is a slippery slope. I have an '86 MC that you can borrow to test whether you would like to go the unboosted route with the stock set up. The MC is probably ok, but I would go with a new one if you are happy with the results. I just need to find the pressure valve.

I also happen to have a complete BMW hydroboost set up including power steering pump, brake bomb, rebuild parts for the hydroboost MC, lines, cooler, hose, etc. You would need to make the restrictor which is pretty simple.

I also have a parts list around here somewhere, but it would be easier to do that by phone if you like. PM me

Thanks, Marc, I may take you up on that. I'm waiting for a reply from ABS to see how much a new booster and accumulator will cost before I decide.

I may bite the bullet and go the larger rotor/caliper route but I wanted to see if I could get away with just a MC change right now. Maybe better to do it all now since I'm in there anyway. For your latest setup, did you have to take your car to NJ to get the caliper mount brackets fabbed? Do you know if VCI will sell another set?
