The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

can you start in 2nd gear
I was just wondering if when we switch out the little 4 for the great v8. The torque is much higher. So with that in mind is starting in 2nd bad. I know 1st is a short gear and if you start in 2nd you have until 60 to change into 3rd. Which turns in into a 4 speed. Does this make any sense?

The NA trans is a 4-gear box.... I always started out in 2nd and tried to break the damn thing, but never did (well developed strange noises in the end, may have been R&P), even dropped the clutch a few times in 2nd....posted a vid of it too

Not sure about the turbo boxes but with the NA box, yup. Unless youre in a parking lot or such.

Without trying to break it. Will a clutch and a Turbo Tranny support the continous 2nd gear start?

I cannot start out in 2nd gear with the Turbo tranny and the 5.3 is TORQUEY.... 1st gear launch is nasty fast with the Turbo trans

Thanks, it sounds like you have the same setup I'm going to have.

Re: can you start in 2nd gear
I still haven't busted the Dodge clutch disc and I do burnouts with the Turbo trans in 1st now. Here's the NA 2nd gear launch.... I did inspect the CV's before my axle upgrade and the driver's side was the most worn, but never busted one....

Re: can you start in 2nd gear
I usually start out in second, with a turbo box; even at half throttle and sticky tires traction is limited. After a few stop-and-go actions in second my dual friction disc will start to chatter a little, which is not unusual for that type of disc.
I don't see it being harder on the trans, probably the opposite. Starting out in second means that you won't abuse it, like you would on a hard 1-2 shift...
