HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Ran now won't start

I changed injectors and while i was doing things I decided to clean the opti spark. Is it possible to some how install that thing and screwup the timing. I never turned the engine. Marked the dampener position. Cleaned the opti with alcohol and q tip. I've cleaned many optical components before so I'm not concerned about that. I cleaned according to article that is very popular on the web. I don't know how it can not go back together just like it came off. I get a blubbering sort of start. It runs real slow like firing each cyl by hand one then next could count the firings almost.The sound in the hedders is like a big horn very low thump (poooof) not a sharp crack you would expect from a sharp explosion. Sound like it is firing with the exhaust valve open early. Run a few seconds very slowly and then dies . Very strange. seems like timing but I don't know how that can change any ideas ? I did change the tune to 39# injectors ---that was only change to program.This car ran before I did these changes. It has been sitting for months but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Is it possible to plug the connector into the opti spark with the wrong orientation. It is keyed like all other connectors I believe--correct?

You check your fuel pump fuse? There's a anti-theft 'feature' with the LS1 that disables the engine if you don't have the feature disabled or have a 'key' (resistor pack) installed. Check that too.

there was a post a couple weeks ago with a simular problem on an lt1 opti. check all your simple things first.fuel,spark ,ect.with an opti it will read a code if it is not working correctly.which means you will need to hook up a code reader.

You should try and retrieve any codes at this point. My guess right off is that the optical sensor either has a film of solvent on the lens, scratched lens/a bit of dirt got on it during assembly, a bit of coolant dripped on the reluctor wheel or sensor, or the pin on the cam is in the wrong notch on the opti. Im not doubting your cleaning ability but it seems like the only real explanation besides misaligning the pin and notch (a misaligned pin and notch scenario just happened to another here recently).

I know it sucks but you may need to take it all apart again to check the opti. But try and pull some codes first, by all means, before diving in.

Im not sure how the engine would react to such a change in injector size though???

I'll try to get some codes.I suspect the opti since I took it apart. Was real careful but they are finiky.
I think the pin is correct it just isn't getting the firing all the time

Turns out that the rotor rotated slightly when the opti was installed.Did the find TDC thing and reset the opti. It fires.

Just need to be very careful keeping the rotor lined up when installing the pin for the dist drive--- simple mistake
