HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
1:05 was the best of the day and that was on Nitto's. Best I've done there was a 1:04 on A6's in the SC'ed car. The new car is a an easy 1:03 and maybe a 1:02 once it is sorted.
Good time at Nashville this past weekend. Car ran great on Saturday and finished p3 in ST2 and p2 in TTS. I'm starting to get the hang of the non-boosted brakes, still much to learn. I also need to learn to feather the throttle better, this is a totally new car for me. Sunday was not as successful, the clutch master was leaking badly and kept me from racing. Video to come but had to leave for a business trip early this morn.

That's an AIX car, more horsepower and not much more weight. He could pull me like I was standing still Of course, my LS1 is a bit detuned so that I can run in ST2.

I hate Rovals like that. PPIR is very similar, a short, tight infield course with a run 1/2 way around the oval. Lap times are a little over a minute. Can't stand that track!

Not my favorite, but still, a weekend at the track is a weekend at the track. It certainly beats staying home and mowing the grass!

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
Tim! Great car, i'm researching al the info i would need in the future for my own conversion but have to do some other things first. (brakes, rims, camberplates) But i was wondering about how you feel about the brakes without the booster? I've seen everyone taking it off and not returning in a replacement part.
And also, what gearbox are you using and is it standard?

I'm using a 85 BMW 635i Hydroboost unit. It works with the early master and can work with the late master with a little machining.

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
Das,
I'm still getting used to the non-boosted brakes. Not sure if I will stick with this system or not. I have 5 days at Barber Motorsports Park ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] starting on Wed. That will give me time to really dial this car in as Barber in my home track with approximately 80 track days to date. I'll know by Sunday if I am planning on keeping or boosting some how.

On my setup everything stays the same, on my early car the stock lines worked, on my late car the stock lines neededd to be extended a bit.

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
Spent 5 days at O'fest at Barber last week flogging the car. Finally got the brakes dialed in and am starting to learn how to lean on them. Will have to make a heat shield for the brake master cylinders and an o-ring went out and I think it was from the heat off the header. I also need to get my two oil catch cans set up asap as I was burning oil. My 23 year old, never rebuilt, S2 transmission gave up on the 5th day at the track. Drained the oil and there are shavings but no big chunks, will pull it apart this weekend to determine what happened. I think the shift forks are either completely shot or where somehow damaged. I can get the car 2, 3, 4, and 5th, but not easily. I can put the car into reverse, but it drags heavily when I release the clutch. Luckily I have a spare S2 box and will move my LSD over asap. Here's a few laps around Barber.

That was a "Ruf" car with over 800 HP (at least that's what the owner claimed)!. He also claimed the day before that he never gets passed at DE's, well, the pass happened three turns after the vid ends. Big test comes in the middle of November at the PBOC races, then we really get to see what this car can do.

lol its very hard for a ruf car to get over 800 hp...they usually top out around 650-700. Good thing you kept him in check

Maybe he meant "at the crank"!
Pulled the transmission today and the ring is toast. LSD was fine so I have pulled that and will put into my spare S2 box.

You need a turbo box.

From what I have read, the turbo and S2 boxes are similarly strong, only the turbo S is beefier. I really prefer the gearing on the S2 over the turbo for racing.

RUF measures their HP at the crank. Their most recent model is rated at 730 hp, so I wouldnt be surprised to see 750ish(they generally underrate their cars) but 800 is pushing it lol.
Either way good job showing him up with about half the power

gotta step it up to ST1 lol. I'm hoping my car will be ST2 ready in 6 months or so, gotta button some things up and see how much more weight i can shave (figured better low power/light weight than high power/over weight).

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
The "Fina" car is the McLaren F1 GTR #39 car and is being piloted by Bill Auberlen. That car was raced at LeMans. I don't care what I do to my car, I'm not going to catch that one.
The Z06 in front of me is an ST1 car with nearly 600 rwph and belongs to friends of mine (two brothers share the car). I got to drive that one on Sunday and it was spectacular.

I'm pretty sure Bill Auberlen could beat me even if he was driving a Yugo...
