The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Good day to all 5.3 questions
The Impala 5.3 is a FWD transverse engine. It has the GM 60* v6 bellhousing pattern and the engine its self is physically shorter. I also believe that the starter for this engine is on the transaxle with no provisions for it on the block. This would be for all car 5.3l v8s mounted transverse for fwd applications.
The truck 5.3 is the same basic block design as the LS1.

Re: Good day to all 5.3 questions
The 5.3 Truck engine is the one to get. It can take all the modding that the alloy LS engines have, exhaust, intake, heads cam, yada yada.....
Evil is right, the LS4 is it's own creature with the 60 deg BH...... something like this would have to be conjured to make it work....

Re: Good day to all 5.3 questions
much as an ls1, i mean, it like a 327 vs 350. which is more? well 350 but the 327 have the rpms so it a blending to get the best of both worlds. 327 block and pistons with a 350 crank shaved and now we got the rpms and the power. get it?
so in other words the 5.3 can be a 5.7 that wont melt or warp.ls1 will warp in high temps

I need to find that LS1 dropped sleeve pic....
Al has 2x the expansion rate of Fe at any given rise in temp= boosting headaches/heat cycling problems.

Re: Good day to all 5.3 questions
I hardly think that how the motor fails when you WAYYY overheat it matters.
I mean, if we were to shoot at the two motors with a rocket launcher the 5.3 would probably hold up better too, but that doesn't mean it's a better motor. LOL

Heh, that Cadillac swap above is pretty neat! I hate to say it though, but those 4.9 Caddy motors were boat anchors when they were new...

Re: Good day to all 5.3 questions
crack the starter location on the LS alloy block and turn it in to the scrap yard for beer money....always a positive there too...LOL
The 944 engine block, Bellhousing and intake, mount uprights and bent phone dial, various alloy parts from the swap were worth almost 150 bucks.....not totally worthless....
The illegal at the metal recyclers didn't even know (or care) that the crank was still in the block....no joke
EDIT: Sorry COLD....about 65lbs difference between the bare blocks.
