HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

in regards to heating and air
I know that you can still run a heater setup in the car by getting a h valve or something to be able to keep the constant running LS1 coolant system out of the heater core while you don't want heat. That does not seem to tricky.
The next body I get my hands on I would really like to try and keep as much of the options in the car, for comfort. Is there a way to convert the a/c system to meet up witha GM a/c air compressor, or is that a lost cause?
I have never thought about it until I decided I need to rethink my goals.

Just a couple of custom made hoses and the AC will be up and running. Any AC hose shop should be able to make them for you. You will need the original GM manifold off of the AC compressor and the 2 original Porsche lines that went to the compressor. I just use a spare hose to mock up the routing and length mark it and get it made up. Put it together and filler up, your done. The compressor wire is right there on the drivers side frame rail, Just tap onto that for your GM compressor.
Re: in regards to heating and air
being an ls1 and newer I don't have to worry about the freon differences in the porsche to the gm compressor?

Rent or borrow a vacuum pump (and a manifold gauge set) to evacuate the system. Replace the receiver/drier. R12 and R134A refrigerant oils are compatible. You will need to include an oil charge with the R134A, which is available where you buy R134A. New O-Rings are also a no-brainer...
Head and Suction pressures/temperatures vary with outdoor ambient, so when you start charging the system, referencing a Pressure/Temperature Chart is a good starting point. If that doesn't work, I can tell you within 5*(degrees F) what they should be...

Re: in regards to heating and air
How about if you run the Porsche A/C request line from the 14 pin connector in front of the drivers side firewall to the A/C request line on the LS1 computer, would that turn on the compressor GM harness? Would the Porsche relay for the fans still get turned on with the A/C being turned on if the signal is going to the GM computer?
Also, there is a pressure sensor you must weld into the high side line near the firewall port that goes to the GM computer.

I didnt even think about the electrical side of things. I was just thinking of hoses.

Re: in regards to heating and air
I found out the fans turn on when you turn on the A/C, answered my own question. So now I have 2 more. Where is the wire for the compressor on the drivers side rail? I just can't find it. I have a wire coming off of the sanden compressor I removed and it is a single wire, which leads to the second question. The GM compressor has a 2 wire connector, how would I connect the single Porsche compressor wire?

Re: in regards to heating and air
Ones ground and ones positive. Just hook on to a really good ground source and the other to the ac compressor wire from the Porsche. It's right on the frame rail, I'll try to get a picture off of one of my parts cars.
Re: in regards to heating and air
Thanks. I got under there again and I still can't find where the Porsche compressor hooked up to. There is a connector coming off of the drivers side rail about the level of the strut tower that has a clear plastic connector. There are 2 wires going to it one is Red/green stripe the other is black ( I think it is for the boost gauge, but I am not sure). The car is an 87 turbo. I am beginning to like the idea of not running the A/C with the ecu.

Re: in regards to heating and air
Look closely at my picture and you can see a single plastic connector, It has a Black and Red w/green wire going into it. The other end has the wire going to the AC compressor hooked to it. That is all you should have to hook up other that the Ground from the compressor. Leave everything else Posche and you won't have any issues. Even if you want a different condenser, just change the condenser only.
Re: in regards to heating and air
That is the connector I was referring to. So now just a new condenser and measure out some hoses. Thanks for the picture that helps a lot.

Re: in regards to heating and air
So from you are saying the ecu doesnt need to be hooked to the a/c system? I know on some cars, mostly newer, when the a/c kicks on the engine speeds up.

Re: in regards to heating and air
You can hook a wire to the ac input on the ecu from the compressor turn on lead.
Re: in regards to heating and air
Look in Bridar's gallery he has how to completely wire it through the ecu. I want to keep it simple, the motor should be able to absorb the A/C without affecting the idle using a stock cam.

Re: in regards to heating and air
What he has in his gallery is a lot of over kill, it's not necessary. The LSx will adsorb the power needed for the AC and shouldn't hunt for any idle, It will settle in fast enough for you to not even notice.

Re: in regards to heating and air
I have spent so much time researching how to wire the A/C, figures it would be as simple as extending a line. Good thing I didn't mess anything up yet.
