HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

GMCOPO Speedo Stuff
GM CMCOPO. Never heard of them. Can any of this stuff be used for our speedo issues?

Re: GMCOPO Speedo Stuff
What Speedometer problems are you having? I never had to do anything for the speedo. The Tachometer yes, but the speedo should work the same as it did with the 4 cylinder.

Re: GMCOPO Speedo Stuff
Oh okay. I checked out the link and its for the VSS. I guess you could adapt it to the 944 transmission speedo gear but the speedo gear in the 944 transmission is spinning pretty fast as compared to the wheel speed. So im not sure if it would be worth the money and time to adapt it. Plus, you would have to either lose your speedo or "T" off it somehow so that both VSS and your speedometer works. Either way, you have to program the computer, buy this device, adapters, custom....etc.
Best so far for the VSS issue is a gear from mcmaster carr or a stock 944 cam gear modified and bolted to the CV with a GM VSS sensor. Low cost and easy.

Re: GMCOPO Speedo Stuff
Do I need to put together a "VSS Kit"?
Real easy...
Whatcha thank?
Cheapest sensor I have found is around 70-80 bucks, plus you will need a fabbed mounting bracket, and a modified 944 cam gear. Prices are running up...
The $125 GMCOPO sensor is the sensor only. No wheel, no bracket, no adapter...nada.

Make a Kit!
I've purchased the GM VSS sensor for $29 bucks or so at Advanced Auto, I haven't adapted it to my car yet, a previous post I made stated that I will attempt to mount it at the rear ABS location in the trailing arm. This is my going forward position, but if a kit was available, I may be swayed from that.

Here's the modified reluctor wheel.

Make it yourself, use a trimmed 944 cam gear, or buy the VSS Kit here...

I could be wrong, but i don't think that bracket holds the VSS snugly. It is meant to hold the VSS *in* a hole.
I think if you made the reluctor wheel and supplied a piece of angle-iron, people could probably take it from there...

I bought one today for some R&D. The existing bracket will not be used with the "Kit".Porch wrote:I could be wrong, but i don't think that bracket holds the VSS snugly. It is meant to hold the VSS *in* a hole....
I may have been a little optimistic at first glance, but now a proper bracket can be designed.
