HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Any Conversions running Cats?

Post  superman22x on Thu Jun 16, 2016 7:40 am

I'm curious if anyone has done a California legal conversion or is running Cats? I was able to pickup a set of 2010 Corvette Cats for cheap. I am hoping to install them. It seems right under the car would work, if I were to move the fuel line to the outside of the frame rail. Has anyone else installed Cats? Curious where you put them.

Thanks

There's a member here who went through the California BAR process to get his swap ordained. Look it up, I would talk to him before you do anything.

Remember unless you use the factory exhaust manifolds the swap won't pass Cali emissions, period.

All of the emissions stuff for a California legal conversion need to come from the same model your engine came from. So unless your engine is from a 2010 Vette (or atleast the VIN that shows up on your PCM when its scanned), they wont be of much use to you.

I'm not in California. I just spent too much of my college career teaching combustion/powertrain classes... I just had these cats available and figured they would be good to add in.

Take a look here, all you need to know. I still have the car, still running great.

I read through your thread, I think I'll locate the cats pretty similarly. No issues near the stock fuel lines for your cats? No ground clearance issues?

No, hid the fuel lines behind extra heat shielding.

Regarding ground clearance, you can get the cats pushed up quite high. These is a sweet spot where they are as high as possible but are not too close to the rear of the transmission tunnel.

I actually rebuilt the exhaust system after the conversion and went with dual 2.5s all the way back, I also relocated the cats to be as high as possible. Here is a picture where mine sit, they could probably go higher but that's good enough for me.

Ok, awesome! How far back in the car are they? I can't quite tell from the picture.

The rear joint between cat and pipe (pipe welded to cat) sits below where the tunnel narrows (about where the original exhaust clamp sits) so the cat is in the opening. One other thing to bear in mind, the rear pipes connected to the cats needs to go upwards to give better clearance, this is because the clearance for cats is not required for the pipes since the cats are thicker. Just take your time experimenting with many 2.5" cuts, patients really pays off.

Ah, ok, I can see the bellhousing now. That makes sense. Seems doable to me. Thanks for the tips!
