HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

clutch pedal sticking to floor
Hi guys,
Took the car off the trailer 2 weeks ago. Its been there for about 6 mos. Rotor cuff surgery took me out of business. Nasty! Well the car was started often on the trailer but obviously thats about it. I'm now having trouble with the clutchpedal sticking to the floor. I bled it 3 times and it got better but still sticks after car warms up. I never removed the spring from the clutch pedal. Could this be the problem? Clutch grabs about 1/4 the way off the floor which seems normal. Its the sticking that is getting me. Anyone had this problem? I forgot how much fun these cars are to drive.

You don't have to remove the spring, you can just adjust it. Loosen the nut up a little (pull the fuse box out on the later models, then remove the plastic cover) and you should be good to go!

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
What kind of clutch? Are you pressure bleeding? Did it work OK prior to the 6 month hybernation?
I am running an LS7 clutch with the spring and it works fine. The spring helps to reduce the amount of force you have to hold down when at a stop light. You could try backing the tension off the spring all the way (turn the adjustment nut all the way out as indicated in the prior post), but I don't think that is the problem. Perhaps the pressure plate got a little rusty and it will free up with use.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
Thanks I'll try it tomorrow. I've got to change the seat also anyway. It seems to get sticky after I drive about 10 miles or so. Works well cold. Seems to be sticky at just the absolute bottom. 1inch off floor its fine. Maybe it is the spring. The clutch is a LuK replacement with RH disc. Was very grabby before layup. Must have self adjusted some.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
IMO, 1/4 off the floor is way too low. If your clutch master cylinder has not been changed, start there and report back. Also check your slave adjustment....
Can you pressure bleed from the slave up and out?

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
Just a guess, but it seems to me that the master is old and the rear of the bore (nearest the outlet) may be corroded. Recently you may have adjusted the clutch pushrod? This would force the piston to travel into this corroded area. When you depress the clutch pedal, the piston/seal may be sticking in this area.
You should also check the bushing of the clutch pedal pivot. This could be totally degraded.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
I'm pretty sure I changed the clutch master about 4 yrs ago. I went with the superblue fluid from Ian at 944online. I still haven't touched it yet. Physical therapy keeps me busy, as well as trying to get my wireless internet up and running. As for the corrosion in the master I know about that stuff. Do a brake job and bleed the brakes and end up doing the master a week later. Thanks for the replyies. I'll post the results when I find out.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
Well it was the pedal assist spring. I backed off on the tension about 3-4 turns and the padal returns nice now. No inadvertent holeshots anymore. Thanks guys. TT rebuild next.

Just curious on the Clutch pedal assist. Why do you choose to keep it in? If its a hydraulic system it should return, what does leaving it in do?

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
If I have trouble with it again I'll probably chuck it. But right now with my shoulder it took all I had to get under there. Never checked to see what a total hydraulic would feel like. But I'm sure my size 12's could handle it. God these cars are rockets.Reminds of the original z28's with the 302's.

I use mine without thats why I am asking? It doesnt seem to give me any trouble. I didnt know what having it in did for the clutch feel.

It's like a booster. I kept mine in as well.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
For anyone that wants to remove the assist spring, on 85.5 and above, just pull up the fuse box and remove the plastic wiring guard and you can get to the spring without shoulder pain....
Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
Good idea! Hope I got enough slack in the wiring. Think I had it up that far once before for wiring, but never moved the guard. My friend has a 944t he's stripping now so I can check it out.

Re: clutch pedal sticking to floor
if you read it again he dais "the clutch grabs 1/4 off the floor which seems normal", id guess he means 1/4 of the way up, not 1/4" (that would be very abnormal).
the problem with the spring is that with a light or weak pressure plate the force of the spring on the pedal can be greater than the pressure plate, making the pedal not return.
