For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Conversion to Power Steering
Got tired (literally and figuratively) of fighting the car around the course, so I am upgrading to power steering. Spent 16 hours over at Mike's (87-944s) house, installing and removing the rack, only to give up at 3am in disgust. We thought we had everything and assumed that the power and manual intermediate steering shaft were identical - they're not! The PS shaft is about an inch shorter - word to the wise.......

I will get into this area shortly and have been reading where a couple of members (xschop and kevin924kevin I think it was) state that there is oil pan clearance issues with the power steering rack as it sits taller. This may be the reason for the shaft being shorter than the manual steer shaft.

87-944S and I resolved the issue by 'dimpling' the pan. Also, if you are industrious you can fabricate new hoses and that should resolve the problem. The shorter shaft is a MUST have though.

New hoses is where I am headed when I get there. I have banjo fittings for the rack so I am hoping that I will have the clearance issue resolved. I also will go with 1/4" spacers under the TPC motor mount up-rights to help out too.
To enhance all this a new borgsen steering shaft and u-joints.
