HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

'86 951 5.3 LM7 v8 hybrid first one in south america
At last i have some time to post my project, i have been reading a lot the forum to make this build work.
My car is an '86 944 turbo with 126.000 miles, i am 26 years old just like my 944, french but actually living in Chile, South America and i have also a bmw E30 325 IS and a ducati 848 evo, that is why the project is progressing really slowly. i started upgrading/renewing my 944: suspention, chip, intake, exhaust, wastegate, etc etc. But then i started doing some basic math and the result: it was cheaper and safer to get a v8 than trying to get more HP from the stock engine. Also the V8 is more reliable since the turbo has 25 years, i was lucky it didn t die.
It will be the first 948 in south america i guess, my next vacation to the US i would like to see if i can meet with one of you guys and see your projects and talk about it with a coffee.
My build started 8 month ago when i had an oportunity to import by boat, so i decided to go for the 948 project and stop
first of all i bought a 5.3L LM7 V8 engine from an '04 silverado
and i bought the kit from Eric to make the swap. All arrive in the container and meanwhile i was waiting i bought some wheels 18'' (front: 8'' wide // rear: 10'' wide
i plastidiped them white (maybe i ll try black, after i get bored from white)
the result on the car (sorry the car is really dirty)
Rear tire
this should take care of the grip. And finally last week the engine is mounted.
.
So now i have to keep going but the "easy part" is over.
here are a few problems i am having and i guess you guys can help me (i have search and saw some solutions but also i have seen that in the project you guys post lots of ideas)
1. the hood clearance, i bought an ls1 intake as you can see, should i change the throttle body to a corvette or can i keep the truck one? i have seen some pics that i should trim a bit the hood and the throttle body also to make it fit
2. i am waiting for the exhaust headers from the shop, and i wanted to know where should the lambda sensor go?
3. brakes, since the servobrakes doesn´t fit, i have read there is 3 options? direct brake (won't the brake pedal be to hard?), hydroboost and mcdual booster. What should i use?
4. acceleration, the 944 engine is drive by wire, the LM7 isn't, i guess i have to change the accelerator pedal to a truck one? is there any other option?
5 electric: i have to figure out where to conect each cable, this is going to be a hard work, i have seen in the wiki some pinouts but still i have to make a clean instalation
6. water, there is a water pipe that goes near the throttle body but since i have put the ls1 intake it won't fit (i ll take a pic as soon as posible)
7. hydraulic, for me it is a must, the 944 i removed the belt and it was "manual" and when i wanted to park or in an 180° corner on the track it was kind of hard moving the 16" wheels so for the 18" i need the hydraulic.
8. the car computer, where should i put it? battery is already in the back
i have many questions at this point on the build, i read a lot the forum but i prefer getting help from you guys. i am getting closer and i am going to take some vacation to work on the car so i have to get the few troubles figured out so that i can finish the car.
Sorry if i don t post much, i ll try to post more. Also i m looking for the "porvette" hood crest or the schematics to fabricate it here.

Looking Good!
For the electrical I found most of my pinout information at LT1swap.com. You can keep the power steering either with the stock pump or a lot of people are going to the Turn 1 modified pumps.
Good luck!

On my project (with a 2007 L92 ‘light truck’ engine) I’m using the LS3 intake. To make the F-body accessories work (p/s pump and alternator) I used ¾” spacers on the bracket bolts and changed the water pump to the Camaro L99 so it all fits and the belt lines up properly. The drive-by-wire throttle changed somewhat in 2008 so use a pre-2008 else, you will need additional tuning work. And yes, if you want to keep the DBW you need to change the accelerator pedal.

Switch to the LS1 cable throttle body and get rid of the truck drive by wire throttle body. Then just get a Lokar LS1 or Gm throttle cable. You will need to get a throttle cable bracket as well that attaches to the side of the intake.
I bent the water pipe out of the way on my 5.3L build, intake clears fine after that.
IMHO, your car looks pretty clean. SSP makes a super nice compact engine wiring harness for about $650 bucks. The truck wiring harness is HUGE and there is a heck of a lot of harness you don't need there....Get a much more compact SSP harness that is clean, labeled and simply plug and play. I had to switch to an LS1 ecu as my L33 ecu wasn't going to work with what they wanted to set me up with. They took my ecu in on trade, and flashed the LS1 ecu they sold me for like and extra $120.
I mounted my ecu in the stock location, I just made a bracket to attach it to the stock metal plate.
With the intake on, I assume you have already installed a oil pressure sender on the back of the engine? Or are you going to drill a hole in the remote filter housing and put it there? You have to pull the intake to install the unit and adapter on the back of the engine, just an FYI.

Re: '86 951 5.3 LM7 v8 hybrid first one in south america
Also, I would switch to the LS1 fuel rail and injectors for the LS1 intake.
Re: '86 951 5.3 LM7 v8 hybrid first one in south america
Thanks for the help. i think i am just going to change the accelerator pedal, it is easier and i won t need a retune, for now i want the car to run, see what starts failing, and what need improvement, later i ll put a better ECU and the upgrades
for the water pipe, that's a good idea, i'll try to bend it.
i totally forgot about the oil presure sender, i just put the intake to see the clearance (no seals, just to see if the hood could close) so when i take it off i ll install the sender
i already bought the ls1 fuel rail and injectors, i m waiting for them to arrive. This weekend ill work on the wiring harness and fuse box, also on some interior details. i ll try to keep this post as updated as i can

Re: '86 951 5.3 LM7 v8 hybrid first one in south america
i'm in a dilema here, since i have a pcm with the DBW, adapting to cable+ getting a retune is gona be as expensive as buying a standalone engine management system, any one has try a motec, haltech, fueltech instead of the pcm?
