HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Marc948GTR build
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and starting my own conversion by gathering information and parts.
First off, I would like to see a converted car up close, anyone close to Ottawa, On ?
My plan, as of now:
- LS3 engine;
- 951 transaxle (LSD, N/A 5th gear swap and an oil cooler);
- Coil over suspension;
- Big brakes;
- Roll cage and race interior (seats, harness, dash, etc.);
- Wide body (similar to the 924 GTR "Le Mans").
I will be reading this forum and posting questions as I go along.
See ya down the road.

Good to know about the Wilwood, let me know when you put the Hydroboost setup in and how it performs.
Maybe we could meet next spring, so I can take a closer look.
Thanks again.

Re: Marc948GTR build
i have wilwood set ups on my two 944V8 race cars and my D-sports race car the braking on all work very good .
i have found with any of my customers that it's not the fact that they are using non boosted brake system but the dual masters don't match the rest of the braking system there using .
when your using a dual master setup you really need to install a balance bar ajuster . when i'm racing i change the balance in the brakes all the time . what you have in the begining of the race may not be what you need at the end . as the race progresses the track changes and tires wear .
if it's only brake pressure you don't like maybe because you feel your having to push the peddle to hard then that is all in the masters you picked . there should be no more pressure needed in a dual master set up than any other type braking system .
if your looking for light and ez peddle pressure with good feel you may want to go with a 3/4 master on the front brakes and a 7/8 on the rears . that will match what the stock 944 peddle feel .

Re: Marc948GTR build
Thanks for the input on the brakes 962.
Do you have a post showing and detailing your setup ?
I'm actually building big brake setup asimilar to what "marc a" is using; GT3 6 piston calipers, Cayenne rotors and a BMW series 7 tandem master cylinder with a brake bias valve.
His setup as been put to test on the track and he seems real happy with this real big brake setup !
What type of D-sport racer do you have ?

Re: Marc948GTR build
no i don't have a post of my cars . as a matter a fact my wife told me she would stop up on friday because i tried a number of time to post a photo of my LS7 car that i installed a quaife 6 speed sequential in and it keeps telling me it's to big to post .
that car ( the ls7 ) i use many parts from a 997 most of the suspension and the brakes also .
on that car i use a 7/8 front master and a 1" rear it gives a 7:1 ratio and makes the peddle travel less but it also add to more leg effort . that setup is more for racing only and not all that good if you want to drive the car on the street . it does add quight alot of peddle feel too but again at the cost of leg effort .
my SBC 944 i use the setup i 1st stated and that works great for that car i use 928GTS calapers front and rear on that car . it did have the rennbay brakes on it and the same masters still were good .
the braking is not really to much better with the 928 calipers than they were with the rennbay ones . there is just a little better feel between the two setups .
i may go back to the rennbay brakes just because the class i run that car in i get points added on because of the tire size 16" were if i go back to the 15" i would get classed in the next lower class
SP2 insted or SP1 .

Aside from previously aquiring a 1986 Turbo transaxle, brake parts came in today.
350mm Cayenne rotors and adapters for mounting GT3's calipers.

Below are two explanations on how to post pictures. You have to resize raw pictures to 640 x 480 pixels. I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize my pictures but other programs will do the same.
If you have a picture or a few that have to be posted, please send me a PM and I will post them for you until you get used to our format.

962, use Photobucket and stick with the 640x480 format and it works fine.
Just posted picture of my transaxle.

GT3 brakes
What are you coming up with as far as complete pricing for the GT3 Brake kit? I am going to do it also.

Re: Marc948GTR build
this is what i did to get the suspension trans and other parts like the brakes for my 948 LS7 car i just bought a totaled 997 . the car i paid just over 9K for a rolled car all the body panels were worth less but the motor and drive line for the most part were good . i sold off the motor and some of the interior to make back most all the money i spent on the car . the total cost to me after i sold off every thing i could to get the brakes ,suspension and trans was just 3100 dollars . because i have now changer the trans out to a quaife QBE85G trans it has changed the pricing some but i may sell the 997 trans or install it in my SBC 944 .
i tend to buy alot of totaled (salvage cars ) to get parts that way i can sell off what i don't need and many times i have paid nothing at all for parts and actually many times make money .
right now i'm building a new back half for my D-sports race car i wanted mazda RX8 rear up rights so i bought a salvage rx8 for 800 dollars took the suspension out of it and sold the hole car for 1500 dollars .

Zeus,
Don't have a final cost for now, I still have to source some parts (calipers will be the biggest item cost wise at around 1500 used).
Take into account a new master cylinder and reinforcing plate, pedal mod (pivot point), brake lines, bias valve, pads and various hardware, I'm hoping for less than 3000.

962,
I have to go trough my local salvage yards to try and find some of the parts (calipers and master cylinder). I don't have the room to work with parts cars, even if I know that it's often more advantageous to get the parts you need that way.
There are alot of salvage yards that also advertise online, so this will be door number 2 for me.
Thanks.

Re: Marc948GTR build
you might try cory at planet9eleven 405-330-9116 for the 6piston brembo gt3 calipers. he has a very low mileage set/4 he just took off of a car. sounds like his prices are likely in your budget realm. he has rotors and calipers.

Car bought !
Hey,
It's been a while, been sleeping off the winter months.
Finally got the major part for this project: a 1987 turbo car.
Already has big brakes, turbo cup suspension.
Bolt-in cage, race seats and harness.
Most of the interior has been stripped, still has some stuff to remove and cleaning to do.
Came with 17" turbo wheels and rain tires and a second set of 18" Sport Techno BBS wheels with Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup tires !
Drivetrain is solid and the car is a good starting point for this project.
Will post pictures soon when all the snow will hopefully melt...
Ciao for now.
