For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Torque tube bolt broken off of adapter plate, any ideas?
I need some ingenious way to take out the rest of the broken stud for the torque/adapter plate out without having to drop the torque tube and transaxle. I don't know if the broken stud is the cause of my vibration or a result of it. I did take out the flywheel to check it for balance the stud was intact at that point.
There should not be much pressure on the stud at this point, could it be as simple as epoxy/jbweld another bolt to it and unscrew it?

How far in did the bolt break? Can you weld another bolt to it and turn it out? You could also try to drill and easy out it...

Thanks. It broke in about the level with the torque tube flange. It would be difficult to get to with a drill or welder as it is about two inches from the tunnel.

Can you get in with a dremel and cut a slot? Maybe you can get an angled flat head screw driver in there?

Probably not. I would need some kind of a 90deg bit. Would JBweld be strong enough? I have only used it once, apparently didn't mix it right because it didn't work well.

Do you have the cable attachment and small cutoff wheel disks for your dremel? Im not sure about the JB weld... Never used it

Upper driver's side stud? It's been pointed out here a few times that the factory hole on the steel TT is usually off square. It should be drilled out with 1/2" bit, then plate installed. If you can dremel the slot, then heat the broken stud until it is almost red and remove it with a screwdriver as the alloy will expand almost 2x the steel stub. Welding onto the stud is a better method if you can get to it.

It is the lower passenger stud. I have a stubby screw driver that might fit in there. I will look into the cable attachment for the dremel, didn't know there was such a thing. I so don't want to drop the transaxle again.

Make sure to try and turn it out by simple means first before going to extremes. If the head of the bolt is broken off, theres no torque on the bolt anymore. Ive, so many times, gone to drilling and welding just to find that the shaft of the bolt came out with little effort.

I am going to try and get that stud out this weekend. What is the thread size and length that I need to purchase. I would assume from McMaster-Carr?
