HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I originally started with a Sloan brake plate. It was 1/8" stainless steel and even though it had wider coverage than the average plate these days, the flex was ridiculous. I'd say close to 1". This weekend, I picked up a 12"x12" 1/4" thick steel plate and went to work. After building the plate and adding the required angle to the mounting flange, I grabbed a piece of bar stock and welded that on to the upper right corner and tossed a modified A/C adjustment bracket from the original motor on there. I admit it, I stole the reinforcement straight out of the book of xschop. Razz

While I was in there, I drilled out the firewall holes and installed some nutserts. I did the same on the strut tower, but added some jbweld to reinforce it even more. So far it looks a million times better than before, let's hope this fixes my flex. Very Happy

Robstah,

Did you bond and bolt the sloan plate? At what point where you getting one inch deflection?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

The flex would happen right at the master. The whole plate would flex outwards in that area.

If you look at the pictures above, you can see the prying marks on the firewall. That's from using some badass 3M double sided tape, made for holding highway signs and other large signs up and attached. Basically, it was a weld replacement tape.

Also, make sure you add an angle to both the brake and clutch masters. Without that angle, you will wear out the pistons very quickly. I had mine spaced off to adjust for the angle in the master brake cylinder and cut away the master clutch cylinder area.

I'm not sure why he specified these to be made out of SS, and 1/8" is crazy small too. Lesson here, don't take engineering advice from a graphics designer... I used 3/8" 50 ksi steel (A572) and that sucker isn't going anywhere. I also got it for free as it was scrap Very Happy I can post a drawing of it if anyone is interested. The drawing isn't 100% correct, but the errors are easy to fix.

If I remember right, he wanted to use aluminum first... Razz

Rob, you will like this one. This was at PRI this past year, the Copo Camaro.

Look at how they "reinforced" their brake master. Cool
