HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Alternator/bypassing factory alarm module question Empty Alternator/bypassing factory alarm module question

Post  Arthropraxis Wed Aug 31, 2011 10:02 pm

The blue wire that excites the alternator runs through the factory alarm module. I did the bypass for the alarm as described here and on clarks-garage.com . Now, the blue wire does not turn on the alternator.

When the alarm is bypassed with the jumper wires, should the wires being jumped be cut or should they stay in place along with the jumpers?

If I can't get that sorted out, could the blue wire be tied into the starter wire? It is looking for 12V ign like the starter.

No, mine is a 2004 GTO alternator/harness. It does not get tied into the ECM.
There is the main lug going to the battery, a reference line with inline fuse going to the battery and a switched field wire going through a resistor or a light. The switched resistor/light wire is the blue alternator field wire at the firwall behind the brake booster.

When bypassing the alarm, I cut the wires and attached jumpers. Apparently, the alternator field wire goes through the alarm system, so now it won't trigger the alternator to charge.

When you bypassed your alarm did you cut the wires or add jumpers without cutting?

Just find a good constant ignition wire, put a light on that wire between the alt and the ignition source.

Thanks, that is probably what I will have to do. I just want to see if I can fix it at the alarm so the light in the dash will work as it should.

Also make sure to stick a resistor in line if you go Eric's route. There was a decent mention on the LS1tech boards about people killing their alternators by just running straight 12v running (the resistance in the bulb seems to make a difference). A friend of mine killed off two alternators before finding this mention.

Thanks, I already put in a 470 ohm resistor trying to track this down. I read every post over there in relation to alternators before I found the blue wire goes to the alarm.

Thanks for the info that the bluw wire goers through the alarm, which is something I want to eliminate since I am installing a Viper system. I have had issues with the GTO wiring setup, although it is so simple. I decided to wire it myslef and not use the harness wiring.

Posting this from a plane, am I the first to post from 37K feet in the air? Laughing

I redid the bypass and the alternator is charging but The alternator light is not coming on during bulb check or during start up.
Update. Took out the inline resistor and now the charge light is coming on as it should during start.
