HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
Hi, our DMV is having a hard time approving my engine swap as I have a "massive" 325hp in my ls1... they dont really want to approve anything over 250hp on the chassis.
Ive read [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] now and looked at other models, but to be sure I would ask here
which engine can fit my clutch housing, engine mount etc, basicly swap all my parts over to for inspection, and has the least ammount of power, ideeal 250hp only, but it seems that lowest available power output is 270hp and is the lm7 if I go for an alublock, is that correct?
what about steel? any lower then?
also, has anyone got any documents on the 968 , 968 turbo or similar, to show differences in chassis bracing/strength/welds?

4.8 if your "state" lets you install a truck motor.

My country, has less people than most of your stats... we actually have 1 place to deal with this in the entire country, consising of.. 2 people, which tend to say NO to everything in general, truck or whatever engine doesnt really matter, the hp rating does, and axle weights
4.8 truck is steel block yes? which one would have the least power output, and have you got any idea how much heavier than ls1 it would be? I need to be within spec on axle weights.
with FG hood, new FG lamps and might even relocate batteyr that should offsett the increased steel block weight.

Re: which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
It's about 65-70 lbs heavier. I removed all AC crap, window washer reservoir, TPC Fiberglass Bumper, lightweight control arms and chopped the air dam. So I'm right back down near even-Steven. The 4.8 has a shorter stroke and flat-top pistons, so it will rev really quick and would be a great motor to swap. Spencer (Map21) is doing the exact swap. They get great MPG's as well.

Re: which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
I currently have a ls1 in it, I will just need this motor for approval reasons and to keep my plates if I get stopped, I need to switch back, but with a lift and tranny jack thats not many hours of work if parts are identical.
65-70 is not much at all! thats very doable.
what is the engine code for 4.8 truck 270hp block?
guessing least power from alu is the lm4, with 290?
The irony in all of this is, my car will be a track car 99% of the time and trailerd, but to drive on tracks here, and germany, you need liscesnse plates and valid road tax/insurance... its all a bit silly.

Re: which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
Get a 2003 or newer. GM fixed the "piston slap" issue by bore-matching the cylinders at the factory (from what I've read).....I have a 2003 LM7 5.3 with NO issues other than it likes to make loud exhaust notes and pick on Carrera-S's
Also check out [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] There's turbo'ed and SC'ed 4.8 that are very impressive.

I just hate when they do that
sadly the exhaust I built is due to our noise regulations, so my ls1 v8, makes less sound at idle than my vw golf1 rabbit convertible with 1.6 carb... I did fire it on just headers last weekend.. mmmmmmmmmmm

Also you can use the alloy block and swap in the 4.8 crank/rods/pistons. IMO that would be a track beast as it would rev to no end with just some LS6 springs. The smaller valves in these heads do have an advantage, just stick in the right cam and go.

Re: which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
Just have a tuner de tune it to the numbers you need , do it on the dyno and take the sheet to the dmv. once its passed have the old tune put back on and your done.
Re: which engine has the least power, and fits all my ls1 parts?
In theory thats all good, but I cant show up with a dynosheet, then engine is modified, which is illegal, I need to have an engine, that GMs factory numbers, says is XXX hp, the factory numbers is the only valid number they go by
Its not like they have a mind, and can think for themself...
