HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Love it or hate it!
I got my wheels powdercoated. I have a feeling Admin isn't going to like this
Just one lousy picture for now, i'll get more that aren't blurry another time.

LOL, no kidding.
Eh, it's a black car, so i have to wash it every weekend anyways....
I did put wax on the wheels though, that should help a little.

I spray my motorbike wheels with Pam, brake dust shoots right off at the powerwash. Don't get it on the discs LOL

I like the white wheels better than black. Black wheels look dirty if the tire sidewall isn't clean. The yellow car would look good with anthracite/gunmetal colored wheels.

When i had mine stripped and coated, i told them to coat them "brake dust gray", lol. They look clean ALL the time ,,,,,,,,,,nearly.

They are nice, however, i think they draw too much attention to the wheels and not the car. Just my opinion.

Re: Love it or hate it!
You're probably right about them drawing too much attention from the car. I was kinda looking for something that looked different (like how the GT3 and GT2 cars have orange wheels) without going all the way into...well...orange wheels.
Ah well, the nice thing about stuff like this is you can always change it

You could always chrome them!!!
They look good, but I do agree that they draw a little too much attention for my taste.

Re: Love it or hate it!
Do those have caps? They look different than mine (although I left the front caps off and painted the grease caps to match)

Re: Love it or hate it!
They do have caps, they say "Turbo" so i didn't fill in the script.
I'm sure you have the same issue i do on the front, where the cover doesn't fit. I was able to cut a few mm off my plastic caps and get them to mostly fit in the wheel with 7mm spacers. If you look closely you can tell they're not completely seated, but they're stuck in there...
Painting the dust caps is a pretty good option, though! I also thought of cutting out a chunk of the dust cap where the prongs hit, then welding it back closed (so the dustcap would have a slight star shape to it), or just cutting all the prongs off the plastic caps and gluing it in with some 3M emblem and trim adhesive (removable, but just barely...).

Re: Love it or hate it!
I machined 5.5mm off the hub and chamfered the perimeters so the wheels would seat without hitting the inside. Until I can get to making a custom grease cap, the modded one will do.

Re: Love it or hate it!
Yeah, my powdercoating guy has some interesting "tints" that could be fun to play with another day...
xschop: so you're not running spacers? I have some 8mm spacers (NOT hub-centric) that you could have for $10/shipped.

Re: Love it or hate it!
No spacers needed if you machine the hubs at the dust cap seat
I am running late offset in front and early arms in the back with TT2 wheels. Do your wheels have 2 hollow grooves on the insides of the spokes? I've heard "hollow" spokes but not sure what that means, if it's hollow grooved or truley hollow with no grooves seen on the back. I can't wait for an affordable aftermarket Carbon Ceramic brake disc to hit the market, that's where the weight savings will make a big difference.
4th post pic of modded hub.....

Re: Love it or hate it!
Yeah, but for those of us without that capability, the spacers work well It puts the wheel nearly flush with the fender, to boot.
These wheels don't have the grooves running down the back of them. If you cut into the spoke they're actually an oval shape with a hollow center. From what i hear they save a pound or two from the non-hollowspoke wheels, but they only come in one offset (45 rear, iirc?). They fit fine on the front, but in the rear i had to convert to an '86 rear hub and matching rotor. I don't believe there's any strength loss because of that, it just changes the offset.
BTW, check your pm's, xschop!

Re: Love it or hate it!
Those wheels did come in a narrow body fitment with a rear offset of 65mm. They bolt right onto the late hubs without issue...

Yes they are. I've owned them. They're not as easy to find as the wide body wheels, but they are OEM and were made.
