HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

After spending most of my afternoon reading all this, I will be planning on a 5.3L swap. Funny thing is, I bought my 1985 944 a couple months back with just planning to fix the clutch and drive it. This is kinda like a while I'm at it thing....if I have to go to the trouble of pulling out half the car anyway, might as well drop in a V8 while I'm in there.

Now, how do I explain this to the wife? Ha ha...

You sound like me....not your average WYAIT's........might as well change it to something different.....and reliable.

Speaking of reliability....The billet TT bearings I'm running are still quiet. I found that the material is high density acetal. Should last longer than Delrin....

The bearings themselves are RB TECH brand Premium and $6 each
Part# on Box is 6006-2RS/C3

I also finished a the CNC'ing of the Wilwood Dynapro adapters for the rears. They fit 944,951,968, and the 928 as well Cool

awesome build! I cant wait to start my turbo 5.3L build. It will be hard to rout the plumbing for a front mount single turbo... I may have to go the twin rout or sts rear.

If anyone is having window problems (mine are electric), I installed the Rennbay window roller repair kit and it fixed the sticking and the mechanism feels brand new. Also got to do some more interior billet stuff. Boost gauge hole delete and Billet Cig/Charger plug....

Hey Rob,

Any truth behind this?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I'm curious if I need to do something to the joints as well. I just ordered them and they should be here by the end of the week.

Yes, if you buy the Borgeson Joints on your own, then you can simple dremel the rotating interfaces and get max angularity. I read in a 944 manual that the steering shaft angle changed between yrs (can't recall if 85.5) but I suspect the early cars (pre 85.5) may bind some if the joints aren't clearanced.

Hey what are those part #'s for those Bilstein inserts, I'm ready to mod another set of those screw-cap late struts. Very Happy

This is what I used:

34-001042

You can also look at these (36mm inserts):

34-050019 (Early Porsche 911)
34-050224 (Mitsubishi 3000GT)

*34-050224 looks like a candidate for the koni hacksaw mod, which only needs a hole drilled in the bottom of the strut and the top cut off. Might need something for the top. I have no clue about length, valving, and thread size of the top and bottom though.

Here are 30mm inserts as well:

34-050149 (RX7)
34-050217 (Unknown?)

Hey Robstah,
Guess you believe I like to waste my time posting stuff on this board that is either incorrect or mis-leading.
Shame on you for not believing what I took the trouble to post. Guess its time for me to shut up and let the other users/newbies stumble by and make and fix their own mistakes.

I questioned the original guy (xschop) who used Borgesons in which none of this clearancing has been mentioned publicly. I also do not see any pictures of what is happening and what to clearance either, from both of you. I question everything, so don't feel bad because I questioned you. Show me next time instead of me having to believe you and things will be much better for everyone. Razz

There's no-one to blame. If I design and build something,I guarantee you it went on my car or someone I know. There IS a steering shaft angle difference between years and I'm not 100% sure if it was the 85.5 that actually has more intermediate shaft angle or vice versa. It could be the 85.5 (mine) change caused the slight binding and I assumed everything was ok because my X-member is dropped 1.25" (my Custom RX7 control arms allow that).

The last couple complete shafts I made since hearing about the issue, I dremeled these areas. I also sent a few shafts without the Joints as requested and explained to the member that the U-joints should be clearanced just in case. I'll find my reference pic and show where you have to dremel the areas, it's simple, and if you can drop a V8 in a 944 I'm sure you can accomplish this menial task Razz

In the mean time stop bitchin' Wink

run the 968 trans or the vette gearbox for a 6spd option

968 gearing is shorter than the 951 box. Running the vette box takes significant fabrication.
