HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Where can we find more info, have you joined the Facebook group “Porsche k swap” there is a lot of info there? What did you do for bell housing, clutch and flywheel?
Can you just cut and reinforce stock crossmember, or maybe a different oil pan set up?
Any photos?

Re: Honda k24 swap
Ok so I'm having a little trouble with this forum but I'll give some insite on what needs to done. I have an adapter plate fabbed to use the stock bell housing and tourque tube to the transaxel. If someone is interested I arrange to have one fabricated. The cross member has to be cut and the rack needs to be moved about 4 1/2 inches forward. The nubbs where the old motor mounts sat can be use to hold new custom mounts. I fabbed a set and they work great. Back to the cross member I currently working with a fabber to give me some fresh ideas as i my first few tries to create a loop where the oil pan sits didn't go well. Using hondata ECU, 3582ebay turbo, cluchmasters fabbed a pressure plate and throw out bearing to fit the stock Porsche bell. Using stock Honda starter.

Do you have an update on this project? I'm just starting this same swap. I'm undecided on maintaining the torque tube and transaxle vs dropping s2k trans and rear instead.

Hello from Australia,
This is an extremely interesting thread, great work paving the way 86 and Vlad.
I was wondering if the kmiata oil pan package could open up some crossmember options? Eg running either the crossmember (and maybe the rack?) through the central cut out?
At least you’d know the windage is battle proven.

Vlad - very cool build. Can you post more pics of the sweet wide body kit? What brand is it? Did it come with the car or did you mount? How much wider wheels can you fit with the wider flares? Sorry for the 20 questions! Great looking car so far.

Any details you can share on your build? Also how did you mount the K series to the torque tube?
Hey sorry about the delay. I'm very busy with home remodeling, but other than the engine swap the stock 944 drive tran is going to bolt up to the k24 via a Adapter plate to fit between the two. Clutch Master's set me up with a custom fly wheel and throw out bearing along with a hefty clutch disk to hold up some abuse.

Re: Honda k24 swap
Hey buddy, no the K-miata oil pan is totally different and won't work, two options. Cut the cross member or use a dry sump set up. I'm going with the cross member and relocating the rack. I'm still working on it but unfortunately I have to attend to some home projects that need attention so I'll be leaving the project on ice for the next few months. Check back on my build and if you have IG follow me @vladybuildsColibri Green wrote:Hello from Australia,

Has anyone gotten ahead with a k24swaped 944? I had to pause to take care of some necessary house work. Someone tried to purchase a adapter plate from me but it felt like a Fraud case.

I am starting to work on the project again. I was busy working on building a new workshop and getting that functional.
To answer one of the questions, I will be running an AEM Infinity and custom wiring harness.
Hopefully some more updates to come soon

Cant wait to hear more updates! this is an ideal swap, in my opinion. 5cylinder cars sound the best but it's hard to beat the power-weight ratio of the k motors, especially with a little boost.

Re: Honda k24 swap
Well put, ChrisCO.
This is indeed a thread where we wait with baited breath. I suspect the clash of the k24 oil pump and front cross member / steering rack why we don’t see more k swaps on the 924/944/968 platform.
Regards moving the rack forward by 4 inches -
I was curious about what effect that might have on the steering and dynamics. Such as Ackermann and bump steer. Interested in any chassis guru’s thoughts. I went back and looked at MWR’s 1.8t subframe and it might be an optical illusion but it seems like they might have moved the rack forward a smidge. Maybe negligible (if at all).

Regarding dry sump-
I was looking into the various dry sump pans, and many have outlets or ridges that could similarly clash with the front rack / crossmember, or inhibit a nice low mounting. Then I stumbled upon this thread where a k24 was being mounted quite far back in an MX5 because of an s2000 gearbox. Old mate designed and machined a sump that looks like it would be perfect for the 924/944/968 application, with two outlets at the rear only-

Anyway, food for thought, as you say the power to weight ratio seems so appealing for a k swap, on paper. Particularly if weight is a key consideration (eg 924). But it also makes you appreciate the elegant engineering of Boost Brothers’ 07k kit. Fascinating comparison. Someone capable (and crazy) just needs to commit and lead the way. Go Vlad and 89EFHatch!

Nice one 89EFhatch!
Nice flex of your welding skills, on that inlet manifold. Can’t wait to see what you did with the exhaust.
How did you go with the sump/subframe? Any pics? I can’t quite make it out in the pic.

I upgraded to a K20 oil pump but the sump was just notched a little. The subframe was modified to clear the sump. I didn't many pictures but I found one. I'll find a picture of the exhaust

Top work! Impressively chunky fabrication on the subframe.
How did the the steering go with it moved so far forward? Extend the steering shaft I take it? Any weird steering issues in your initial test drive or is it behaving itself?

Re: Honda k24 swap
Initially it felt okay. I just made the steering shaft yesterday, it ended up being 1.8" longer. I need to re bleed the brakes and then I'll take it on the road a little and see how it really feels.
Also I haven't adjusted the alignment at all so I'm sure it's toed in a little from shifting the rack forward

Re: Honda k24 swap
I was able to bleed the brakes, mount the exhaust, and do a quick alignment (it had 1" of toe out after moving the rack the forward). Then take it out for a quick spin.
Here is a short video of the first trip on the road.
Its a little smoky but that is gas that is years old at this point.
