HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Alternator Hook up
Hi all...I have looked at a few post and still am a little confused.
I have a Silverado alternator with a two wire hookup with a harness connect done by SSP.
I understood that I simply connect the two pin weatherstripping connector and then the blue wire from the original Porsche connection and I would be fine. The battery is not charging with this hookup. The voltage inside on the dash is reading but again not charging. Do I need to hook 12v to the back of the alternator to the battery as well?
Thx

Re: Alternator Hook up
the blue wire is hooked to the field circuit of the alternator, this is what essentially turns the alternator on. you also need a battery cable hooked from the back of the alternator to the battery, this is the output from the alternator to charge the battery. this should be an 8 gauge wire or larger.

Re: Alternator Hook up
Thanks for your quick response. Currently I have the blue wire to the back of the alternator and the plug from the harness attached to the alternator. If the 8gauge wire is to go to the back where to I hook up the blue wire...not to sound ridiculous :-)

Re: Alternator Hook up
im not sure what alternator you have exactly, but here is a general diagram that should point you in the right direction
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
with a 2 pin you should have the L and S on it, wire them up as shown. S goes to the alternator stud, L will go to the blue wire in the car. you then run an 8 gauge wire from the stud on the alternator to the battery

Re: Alternator Hook up
Thanks for the drawing. My two wire connector connects the two in the middle and the wires are red and brown whereas the drawing connect the second and 4th. Any ideas..

Here's the setup I used with my Camaro alternator and the pigtail from Painless.

Re: Alternator Hook up
Thanks for the replies. The alternator is up and running. I rant the 8 gauge wire from the back of the alternator to the battery. I connected the blue wire to the L wire by splice and then connected the pigtail from the harness the alternator.
It is charging now.
