HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

CEL MIL hook up
*Full disclosure - I'm not the strongest when it comes to wiring.
I've been trying to figure out where to hook up the MIL signal from the LS1 PCM. I'd like to use the unused Check Engine light on the cluster. It looks like there are three bulbs that illuminate the CEL on the cluster and they correspond to pins #5 & #6 on connector "C" on the back of the cluster. Pin #5 is black with red stripe and according to the wiring diagram it terminates at a "welding point connection with field data" J19. I have no idea what that means. Pin #6 also goes to the CEL bulbs but there is no wire in connector "C" to tie into. Do I need to find a way to get a pin into position #6 so I can wire the MIL to it?
I thought this part would be easier.....
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: CEL MIL hook up
I took the easy way out and wired the CEL into the brake fluid indicator wire in the engine bay. This will light up the (!) light. unfortunately, it will also light up the brake fluid light on the dash. The brake fluid light isnt that big of a light anyway. I know that's not what you asked.... Just another easy option.

Re: CEL MIL hook up
and guessing...just take the 'brake fluid light' bulb out of the cluster panel if it bothers you

Re: CEL MIL hook up
Thanks for the reply spence, I may do that if I cannot get the stock CEL light worked out. Since you brought up the ! light, I have all my power and ground wires hooked up at this point and when I turn the key to "on" the ! lights up already. I assume there are a number of things that are missing from the old engine that are causing the ! to light up. So how do I get it to turn off if I decide to wire up the MIL like you did?

Re: CEL MIL hook up
The (!) light is hooked up to a number of different things. The brake pad sensors, E brake, brake fluid and I think oil and coolant.
I only had to wire the brake pad senor wires together from what I remember (im not using the stock brakes); everything else was fine. You'll have to go around to each sensor and find out which one is tripping it.
When my key is "on" the (!) is lit up; I think thats normal. When the car is running it shuts off (unless it gets tripped)... Yours may be the same

Re: CEL MIL hook up
That makes sense. Sorry for the ignorance, I've never driven this car it had a seized motor when I bought it. It's also been at least 10 years since I've owned another 944 and cannot remember what the dash lights all do. Thanks for the help.
