HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

914 Headlight motor issues, help!
So the 914 headlight motor is in, clocked properly and wired.
The 944 driven motor works fine, pops up, turns out, goes down.
The 914 headlight motor works, turns on/off, goes down and stays down. However........
When you turn it on, it repeatedly cycles up and down. It doesn't seem to know it's "up" stopping point. We've grounded it seperately to the main chassis ground, that enabled it to know the "down" stopping point, but it still cycles in the "on" position.
Scratching my head over here, any clarification would be appreciated!!
TIA!

I think the ground connections play a big part in the operation of these motors. On my car, they seem to work fine when the engine bay is cool but start acting up once they get a little warm. (I assumed this was just a ground issue) I also had the same problem as you initially, but I think it was because I hadn't grounded the center pin (87a). That connection keeps the motor from overshooting it's position, which causes the cycling. Also double check your relay and make sure your relay connections are solid.

I wired in a new, modern Bosch relay, so no worries with that. I did ground 87a, that's what gave the motor it's stopping point in the "down" position. Or maybe I have something crossed? Are there two grounds needed, one for stopping positions in up and down?

I think there were 2 contacts that I connected to ground.. I'll have to check my wiring and get back to you.

Looks like I have terminals 85 and 87a connected to ground. I think 85 is the brown wire which grounds through the motor casing and bracket. I found that to be a bad connection, so I ran both grounds to a different point on the frame rail.

Ok, I'll break out pin 85 to a distinct ground and see what happens, thanks!

Got it figured out. It wasn't a ground issue, we had the switched power hooked up wrong to the motor, so it was just constantly getting a cycle signal.
They work great and the motors are almost perfectly synced.

Is there a write up somewhere or a list of parts for switching to the 914 motor?

Search this site for dual headlight motor conversion or 914 headlight motor. You'll find a thread with pics, wiring diagram etc
