HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

The engine started up fine, seems to run well and no leaks so far. The fans came on as they should when the temp came up and the coolant level went down circulating fluid. All seems well.

I have no tach. I hooked up the tach signal wire from the ECM to the center lug on the back of the tach gauge. It doesn't even budge. Any suggestions? I made sure to tell the tuner to keep the ECM programmed for a 4 cylinder. Is there a better way to hook up the tach?

Thanks for any help.

I had mine on passenger footwell, on 4 pin, but directly to gauge should have worked, sure its correct pin? even 8 cyl should have showed some signal, but wrong

I took the tack wire off of the back of the tach and connected it to a black and green wire in a four pin connector in the passenger foot well. The tach still doesn't budge. The signal from the ECM is the correct pin number, C2 10. This is a 2004 GTO engine going into a 87 turbo. Any other ideas?

You will need a 680 ohm resistor between the tach wire at the computer to a 12 volt ignition source.

Fixed the tach, hooked it to the green/black stripe on an eight pin connector in the passenger side foot well.
New issues, the alternator is fried and I have a cylinder not firing.

What do your plugs look like? You might just have a clogged injector... You could rent a noid light kit see if the cylinder thats not firing will light up the light. Did you check it for spark? How many ground wires do you have?

That sucks your alternator is fried... 87-944S also has a GTO engine as I'm sure you know... I think he's got the wiring figured out....

New plugs and I know which cylinder it is. When I take the injector harness off of the last drivers side cylinder the engine note does not change. It is either the fuel injector being stuck or the coil pack. I may do the seafoam cleaning as Admin has suggested or send them out. When I get a new alternator, the coil packs can be swapped to see if it is the coil pack.

Now, I know why my alternator light does not come on with the bulb check during start up.
