HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

You can see in this pick how my mounts meet the cross member.

WIDE BODY its out about 12 inches give or take this will allow for some width in the rear mocosons. Love the tail lights.

There is about a 3/8" gap the angle area is differant between steel and alum cross member.

You can see the areas that have been plated to ad strength to the CM. There is a square tube added to the center, the full length should never brake.

Same as drivers side. When the shims are in and welded it will sit right where it needs to be.

This is still in the fitting stage. I need to bring it in about 1/2" plus or minus to Allow the rear slope in the middle of the back of the car to have a nice angle.it is all rough cut.when i get close i will finalize the car side with a flange then my panel will over lay flush and i can spot weld seam seal and go.i have to cut the glass rear bumper just out from the tail light back side and bring in the angle to get a nice smooth flow across the back. I think i might fill in the lower cutouts for the tail plpes and relocate up and through the rear bumper.I was thinking to either side of my plate location but not sure. There is some mods to be done by the door area, bring up the bottom to meet the car at the bottom of the rocker panel.then shorten the new roker area back to allow the door to fit, deciding on slope and final shape of the front of the well.thats an over view of the back,oh the rear 968 wing should look good, will see.

Ok, so you all can see how it sits. Solution is what i expected to have to do, have some metal shims cut and then i will oblong the main hole in the cross member reset the motor with the shims with a nice clean hole and weld in place. The motor right now is a 1/4" higher on the passenger side ( sitting cocide not the mounts) the shims should be the same both sides. I also need to cut back the old engine mount on the drivers side firewall, then it can lay back if it needs to. Should have good oil pan clearance on both sides, tighter on the drivers side. Still thinking about remounting my manual rack, it just makes perfect sense. Remove the bolt boss complete at least on the drivers side and ad a new mount point to the face of my cross member (mine is steel ) so easy to do on my application, if i did both sides ,then the only changes to the oil pan would be to the depth from the front of the pan to the new face, where it sits just past the cross member, I need about 11 inches according to my measurements. Will decide on that, the rack is sitting in the car with out the pan right now. I might mod my stock alum one. It has a full baffle system in the bottom. Can some one post a pic of there modded pan in relation to the exgaust, how wide can the bottom of the pan be and still have lots of room for the headers. Thanks for now.

Re: New convert under way
I haven't performed a conversion so this is a shot in the dark but are the engine mounts on the wrong sides? From the photos it almost appears that if you switch them from side to side they might fit better.

Re: New convert under way
No they are not on the wrong sides. They are made for the 944 cross member, he was trying them to see how well ( or not so well) they would fit the 924 steel cross member.

Admin, i think they are going to work just fine, i had expected this from the outset.I have done some pan mods and rack mods, i will post some pics on monday. My bolt bosses for my rack are 1"closer than that of the alum cross member.I have made the adjustments needed and everything fits.

You can see in this pic my cut stock pan and i had to remove the too bolt boss to allow install. My top bolt holes are 8.5 apart verse the alum at 9.5 so custom pan it is.

Re: New convert under way
Incredible build! I can't wait to see what the 997 TT wide body conversion looks like when it is done!
How much R&D was needed to persuade the 997 body panels to fit?
