For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Do or Don't convert with L83 motor?
Hello Hybridians,
It looks like its getting time to purchase a base motor for my v8 swap into
my 1988 951. Are there any articles or info you can point me to either
in favor of or against using an L83 with VVT delete.
Found a very low mileage L83 I thought might be a candidate.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Kind Regards,
Topher944

Re: Do or Don't convert with L83 motor?
the l83 is a gen 5, or LT based engine. there are numerous differences between the gen 3/gen4 and the gen 5 engines, as of right now a couple people here are working on swaps, but no kits exist for swapping these engines into the 944.
if you want a more bolt in swap, look for a gen 3 or gen 4 engine.

Re: Do or Don't convert with L83 motor?
The LS V8 used was in nearly every truck and tahoe/suburban and yukon along since 2001 or so wiith a few other vehicles (camaros, corvettes etc) thus much more prevalent and far cheaper to buy from a junkyard and upgrade to your taste vs the newer style LT engine, so an LT based is unique yes, but at a price. Not worth the novelty as I look at my shell of an 84 944 and begin acquiring parts for the swap.
