HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I believe that all of the 944's up to 87 use 33 spline and in 87 they changed to 25 spline. the 930 is 28 spline.

New convert under way - Page 8 Empty axles/gas tank

Post  kevin924kevin Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:33 pm

Well axle situation solved. zo6 axles shortened and resplined to 33 with the type 2 cvs with CM cages, raises, hardened and larger balls. Started to investigate the trans mount, should be straight forward,i will use the stock vette mount and run a tube across and up to the frame rails, with a strut up to my factory mounting point on each side. Placed the stock gas tank back in today, fits like a glove, lots of room, the vette driveline was made for these cars. I will post a few pics of the tank on Monday.

Don't you mean our drive line was made for the Corvette. You really don't believe the engineers came up with the idea of the rear trans axle? Laughing Laughing Laughing

I just find it funny how many people come into the shop and see the 944 on a lift and say that looks just like the Corvette setup. I always say ,"no the Corvette looks just like this!"

It took North America a long time to catch up with a great design.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a Corvette rolling chassis with front and rear suspension and gut a 994 to obtain a drop on bodyshell????

Hello, it might be, but you would have to stretch the front of the car, to allow the vette wheel base. This way it will be all porsche less driveline.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The stock 924 tank fits awesome, no clearance issues at all, and i think i will be able to drop the trans hieght alittle, i think about 3/4". so even more room.

I love you weird yanks and your silly ideas Smile

People here has a tendency to put down your automtive skills and cars in general.. ut then again, most People hare idiots, because this is brilliant.

This also means.. the twin clutch corvette tranny works.. now thats cool.

I have 5 trannies left, need to plan a a swap before I run out eh...

Very Happy Hey Kevin, is the tank sheet metal? My 85.5 is Poly.
Besides the fact that it fits beautifully, the real kicker is the removable differential can be swapped quickly without having to reset pre-load on the R&P as it is built into the unit itself. It really is a brilliant design.

Don't forget to get the final axle dims when you're done..... kudos Wink

Hey xschop, ya the tank is the metal one, factory, vintage 1978, might even hold gas ,and yes a half dozen bolts and a 2.73 can be swapped, in for those nice highway cruzes. And yes iam recording everything. TY a951

New convert under way - Page 8 Empty trans mount

Post  kevin924kevin Mon Feb 20, 2012 11:04 am

Hey all, any thoughts on a trans mount. My 924 was mounted to a solid cross member(factory) with a mount on either side of the stock trans. The C5 mount is at the ass end of the unit. there is an offset of about 4 in on C", i was thinking, maybe a quarter circle or so from the stock cross member down ea. side to a bottom plate and use stock vette mount.Solid mount to car and stock vette bushed mount. How thick would you have to use in alum. Vette trans must weigh around 350lbs + or -?. Stock porsche mount is a single bolt in to the cross member on both sides.bolts are around 20" or so apart. What is the weight of a turbo trans? Will the factory 924 cross support the vette weight.,

I'd say a stock turbo tranny is around 100lbs seeing as I can lift it "easy" myself.

Hang it off the frame rails with a square tube going across. Looks like a 928 owner is about to do the same swap. I told him to contact you about shifter location dims.

So i have decided to do all cross members etc to match the cage ,so 1.50 x .095 DOM seamless, this should meet all spects for racing etc. I will use a new tube inconjuction with the factory cross for the trans mount.

New convert under way - Page 8 Empty trans

Post  kevin924kevin Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:49 pm

Well, went to Neche Nd, and picked up the 2 piece bellhousing, cluth slave, camber bolts, and last but not least the new CVs, Empi makes a real nice product, very happy. Now the axles mods can go forward. After installing the bellhousing it would appear trans/tt are sitting right where it needs to, about a 1/2" off the fire wall on the drivers side.

New convert under way - Page 8 Empty cross member

Post  kevin924kevin Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:00 pm

Well after a bout with the flu, i have finally decided on how the cross member will be configured. This unit will be mandrel bent .120 seamless DOM x 1.5" continuos from one side to the other. there will be two tubes stiched welded up the middle and attached to the old crossmember location. There will also be a tube running across the top of the center hoop and angled down to the side of the frame rail on each side and a upright on each side on a 62 degree angle to cont the triangalation for max strenght. a cage can be added after with no interferance. so completely universal for the cars we own.
