HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
I was a little shocked by the 15-20 ceramic balls that were rolling around in my headers/box, and are actually stuck inside the collector seams. This is my first set of performance headers, so this might be the norm.. but I dunno. The passenger side set looks VERY hurried to me. 2-3 lengths of wire with blobs on the end, rusty stains at the collector joint, 3-4 of those ceramic balls stuck into the welds, kinda iffy welds at the flange...

Most header look like that. My Pacesetters may have been slightly worse.

As long as all the wire welds seal the connections, the ceramic overspray will get blown out.....Those look nice IMO.....Hell, I'll trade you for my Tig welded 2312's

Re: S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
Good points, glad I was nervous for nothing! I need to clean up the bolt holes, they are burred and wavy, and file the gasket side face just a bit. Glad that's all, instead of learning welding and buying the equip or hiring out. THANKS to all involved!
@gt1scca: I'm sorry if I look like a whiner, I realized there was a danger of that when I posted my question. I just have no experience to compare it too and was checking with everyone else. I'm happy that you did all the work for everyone, and I actually somewhat appreciate what that means.

Re: S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
Having bought and installed many sets of header, as well as fabricating them when necessary I got to say by looking at the pictures you got a smoking deal. You ever looked at the scabbed together headers that the chodes in Lost Vegas kick out for well north of $1000?
I am not sticking up for S&P as I have only had their producst in my hands two or three times in my life. Mandrel bent custom application specific for around 800 bones with plating, that is a deal of a lifetime.
What you are seeing is very common in production type headers. Rushed, sure as they have made a major investment in time and tooling and won’t recoupe the real actual cost for quite some time. So at this point I am guessing that if they are breaking even on material costs and labor they are damn lucky. It is a very fortunate find that the 944 hybrid community can get hooked up with a company with the reputation of S&P to do a custom application not knowing if they are going to sell five sets or five hundred.
As a point of reference I am working on a 2010 Camaro and ordered a set from BBK. I told they very specifically I would pay extra for a set of “perfect” long tubes. Basically I wanted them to either pick through their production run and give me the best of the best or make me a set that everything was perfect. That was agreeable to them as they understood the application. Many weeks later and a cost of almost twice the retail price I got the headers, guess what? Polishing balls in grooves, some not so visible welds not so perfect, handling rubs in the coating and so on.
By looking at your pictures I believe the fit and finish is equal to if not better than a set costing almost three times as much, that I just installed. Next time you pick them up, realize what you have in your hands. A 100% custom set of mandrel headers, elegant solution, specific to a very limited market application.

Re: S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
THANKS! I appreciate that.
I wasn't exposed to this side of the automotive world until later in life and it's nice to get straight-talk. I can smell the noob flood approaching as news seems to have spread far and wide about this board and the swap. Again, thanks for taking the time to answer questions from a well intentioned first timer.

Are those the headers that Greg made available? Or are those a third option?
They look good to me though.

Alan Arkus (vt951) and Dan Jauch (xsboost) modified the original set that S&P built the fixtures from, and their efforts are greatly appreciated. Rennlist helped make this happen, can you believe it? The whole deal has happened through email and phone calls.
But...S&P are not the only ones that are breaking even...
The headers will go up when they hit the 944V8S website, but nowhere near the $1200+ of the "equivalent" chode-scabs. Final pricing was so tight, I had the first sets shipped direct from S&P, because the additional shipping required coming from me would have put the whole deal in the red.
Not to complain, or even brag on anything I have done, but - I barely broke even on these myself to be able to provide a legitimate solution for the 944 V8 application. The owner of S&P feels the same way, but these are still considered "custom" by S&P, and a few additional charges crept up on us during production. Two fixtures were built, with no promise of reimbursement, and no guarantee of future profits. Street & Performance remains the absolute best company I have dealt with, period.
With that said...
I "bought-in" as a an S&P dealer to make sure these will be available in the future. Future sets will include the option of 1.75" primaries for those convinced that they are necessary for anything other than an LS7, but at ~$300 extra (still less than the $1249 chode-tubes, LOL). Thanks for the orders, guys, and an additional "pending" order is in progress already.

Good job on the headers
Received my headers on Monday. Thank you for going to all the work to make this happen.
Now, I just need the LS1 cross-member that supports AC. (Hint, Hint).

My headers came in today and they look AWESOME. I hope they fit as good as they look. I was pleased to find they even came with the gaskets and bolts.

Hey adam7e,
How long did it take for you o get your headers? I ordered a set from Greg Sloan over a month and a half ago. My biggest issue is not being able to get a response...call....e-mail. How was your experience?

Mine got here about a week ago, they were sent directly from S&P. I get quick response from Gregg through PMs.

Re: S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
Greg is/was great to deal with. He's always been quick with communication. S&P took a touch longer than originally projected, but no worries there. I have to say I'm pretty surprised. Greg will no doubt see this post very soon, and I imagine he'll get in touch w/you directly.

Look at the top of the page that you're on. Under the big banner (reading: "944 Hybrids.com") is a grey navigation bar. The two vendors that sell most/all of the parts discussed in these forums are linked to there. One is 944v8s.com and the other is TexasPerformanceConcepts.

Re: S&P Headers arrive at the 7E garage
That IM price was for the "Buy-In" only.
They will be going up, I just am undecided as to how much.
All increases in production and shipping costs must be compensated for.
I'll post new pricing on 944V8S.com when pricing is finalized.
