For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Been on Renny and can't find info. I didn't measure mine when I pulled CV'c for VSS install and don't want to crawl back under there. I have some 12mm Ti rod and will spin out some real deal CV bolts

I've searched and cannot find......
I need size and pitch and length
The length of bolts is measured from underneath the head to the end of threading. Confused posts about this on this forum.

And are all 24 bolts the same?

You are talking about the bolts that hold the cv axle to the trans and the hub assembly correct?

If so I have all mine on my work bench right now until I re-install my trans. I will look at them with my caliper and my tap and die set and tell you what I find out.

Yes, I don't remember the dims. I also need the cap head length and width. Does it look like the cap head width could be a little wider than the factory one and still clear the flange seat? You know me, make it nuke proof. A couple of the CV bolts on mine where almost stripped, effin' Porsche cheeseheads, can't wait for those to be gone with some real allen caps.

8 x 1.25mm thread pitch. Stock is 45mm long. I went with 50mm but make sure shoulder doesnt bottom before it torques up to 30 ft.lbs. 48mm would be ideal but 45mm didn't make me feel good about engagement depth. Use 12.9 din hardness and blue loc-tite.

Does anything fit those cheeseheads? I have what is supposed to be the correct tool and still had to beat it in with a hammer to get any grip. BTW, is it necessary to add any length to the bolt when adding the VSS wheel?

The VSS wheel is why I went with the 50mm. They give that extra little bit of extra engagement. If you use the oem load plates on the other cv's the 50's will work. If your load plates have grown legs and disappeared you have to be really careful the bolt shoulder doesn't bottom out before it tightens up. On the trans flange it's a through hole so theres a little room to cheat. On the hub side the tip of the bolt will bottom out and keep the hub from turning. Not desireable!

Xsellent. I can get 50mm lengths and keep the factory load plates (not sure what they mic to thickness)....
Good news tho, the TPC VSS kit reluctor/sensor wheel is 2.95mm thick, probably about the same as the load plates. Cheeseheads are out the door.

Scratch that I may be doing 45mm lengths. It's funny that you replied back SB. Are you running the TYPE 2 cv's or not?
I am upgrading to type 2's and they are 32mm width cages whereas the factory type 4's are 34mm.

Never had any problems with the triple square or cheeseheads bolts. Just make sure you use some spray cleaner in the sockets before installing the tool. A good quality tool helps, I have one from Snap-On that is really good. Good info on the longer bolts for the VSS wheel, that will be going in as soon as I finish the ATB diff install.

xschop,
I just put the empi cv's in. I can get the thickness when i get home tonight. I replaced type 2's with them so i am guessing that they are the same or within a mm or 2. 50mm is the best bet. I looked at 45mm, 48mm, and 50mm. I have some 12 point ARP bolts I was using but it's really tough to get a socket on them and they were a little too short.

why is it necessary to get longer bolts when installing the vss system? I understand bottoming and thread length, I am just confused some what. If I need to get longer bolts when I install thats fine just thought the regular bolts would be good enough.

Hey Collin, you won't need any longer bolts, just replace the 3 flange seat plates with the VSS wheel, they are about the same thickness Very Happy

From one of my posts on the "other" board.....
Grade 12.9, M8 x 1.25 x 50mm
Stock are only grade 8.8

I picked up some 12.9 hex heads from Mcmaster carr.....I did have to trim the bolts, ~1/8", that I used in the outer drive hubs. This had to be done so that the bolts did not rub on the bearing. But 12.9's should out last the CV's.

This is the part # 91303A201

Did you have the 3 flange seat plates or not when the trim was needed?
