HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I was scanning the internet for LSD options for my open differential and came across a vendor called Traction Concepts who makes a conversion kit for $500. is this too good to be true? Does anyone have experience with this product? They don't give much information on how it works. Thanks, Gil

I've installed a hand full of those and they honestly don't work that well. Better than an open diff, but just barely.

Traction Concepts LSD conversion for open differentials. Empty Differentials

Sounds like you get what you pay for. What is the preferred option to change a conventional differential to a limited slip? I believe there are several manufacturers out there who make LSD units.

If it's a street car only, then the Wavetrac works really good. If it's a track car then you would need a clutch type LSD, like Guard or similar. Even a Porsche LSD can be set up to work really well on a track car.
Wavetrac is the least expensive at about $1500 compared to the others.

Traction Concepts LSD conversion for open differentials. Empty RE: LSD

I need to think about what to do with the transaxle. The car is street driven now but it will probably go to the track when I get all of the bugs sorted out. That will be the last item that gets upgraded. I have a 5R out of an '87 Turbo in the car now and it works fine except it does not have a LSD. I might be better off purchasing another transaxle with a LSD and selling my 5R. It would probably be cheaper than installing a new differential in the transaxle I have now.

You can usually find a turbo trans with LSD for about $2500. Much cheaper than a aftermarket LSD

Don't waste your time and money on the TC solution. It does not work and actually fails and causes a lot of collateral damage. I carry rebuilt factory LSD units in stock if interested.
