HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

5.3 in 1988 with C5 Trans Questions
So I am new here if my questions have been answered elsewhere. I already have the block at the machine shop get 30 over and surfaced, I'm unsure which heads I am going with yet but have a stage two cam, forged pistons, forged rods going for a 150 shot and later turbo. I also picked up a 2004 C5 transmission with 29k on it. I have cut the floor like others have said but am unsure if how far forward I need to cut? Also how to mount the transmission I have a picture of someone welding pipe between the frame and down to the trans which I am leaning towards just getting the pipe to the correct dimensions sounds like a PITA does anyone have dimensions of their brackets or other ideas? Lastly with the c5 trans and how the torque tube would raise the power-train I figure the TPC engine mounts wont work so what did you guys do? Hoping to find someone with a similar setup to pick their brain about it. Thanks

There's only been a couple people to have done this here. There's a lot a fab work involved, and I doubt anyone would record all there dimensions. The engine mounts should still work.

I just got the torque tube mounted up and with the length difference between it and the stock 944 torque tube how does that work does the motor have to be placed further back?

if you look at the location of the outputs compared to the front mounting surface of both the 944 transaxle and the corvette transaxle everything will make sense

Torsion Bar Housing
So I finally have a second motor I had in the shop in the car with the torque tube and trans mounted I will post pics later. Next I need to hoop the torsion bar housing and get coilovers for the rear. Can someone get me the length of the tbar from banana arm to banana car I already have it cut and didn't take that measurment?

Re: 5.3 in 1988 with C5 Trans Questions
Hi Clayton, the swap is not that bad. Look in my thread on the forum. What I did is, I had a hoop made to clear the top of the trans. It is 2 tubes of DOM seamless 1.5” . It was welded to the TT before I removed the center section. As you can see in the pics I have posted I cut it up tight to the trailing arm mounts. I made a template of the opening, then had ½” plate cut and bent. Where the outside mount is this is inserted and welded, thus reinforcing the one trailing arm wing on each side and closing up the TT end. If you wanted to run the torsion bars, this can be done as well. With the torsion bar delete, which is a common deal, you purchase the HD lower shock mounts from Lindsey or Pelican or Elephant. What I am going to do is have a second mount point welded to my trialing arms, then a slightly longer bolt. Then the bottom of the shock will be supported on both sides, much stronger. With the way I am hanging my trans for mounting I ran a DOM tube between the upper shock mounts with plates to strengthen. I had a complete 2 tube DOM cross member made. I am going to install a bottom cross member on my TT using the original aluminum brace that I removed.
